ATHENS, Ohio—The Ohio softball team (13-17, 7-4 MAC) won both games against Akron (10-22, 5-6) today (April 6). After trailing 3-0 in game one, a walk-off home run from fifth year
Allie Englant (Long Beach, Calif.) secured the 6-3 victory followed by a 2-0 win for the second game.
GAME ONE
The Zips struck in the top of the second, scoring the first two runs of the game off a single and a sacrifice fly in consecutive at-bats. Another sacrifice fly in the fourth extended Akron's lead to 3-0.
Still down by three in the bottom of the seventh, Ohio went to work, scoring their first run off an Akron error. Sophomore
Yasmine Logan (Pittsburgh, Pa.) singled up the middle the next at-bat, allowing Englant to advance third before scoring on an error by the Zips' second baseman. Sophomore
Annalia Paoli (Point Marion, Pa.) tied the game with an RBI double, sending the game into extra innings.
Senior pitcher
Mackensie Kohl (Corona del Mar, Calif.) drew a bases-loaded ground out in the top of the eighth, preventing Akron from taking the lead. With two outs and runners in scoring position, a walk-off, three-run home run from Englant drove the Bobcats to a 6-3 victory.
Individually, Englant went 3-for-5 with two runs scored, three RBIs and one stolen base. On the mound, Kohl pitched all eight innings, registering eight strikeouts while walking two.
GAME TWO
A sacrifice fly from Logan drove in one run for the Bobcats in the first inning. After two scoreless innings, Paoli hit a solo shot to left field, giving Ohio a 2-0 lead.
Senior
Kylie Coffelt (Beloit, Ohio) was dominant on the mound, pitching a shutout game with seven hits and one strikeout in 28 at-bats. At the plate, Yuhas went 2-for-2 with two stolen bases while both Englant and Paoli went 1-for-2.
