Ohio Men’s Basketball Adds Transfers Hunter and Wiznitzer to the Roster for 2022-23

ATHENS, Ohio – The Ohio men's basketball team has added center Gabe Wiznitzer and guard Jaylin Hunter to the roster for the 2022-23, head coach Jeff Boals announced today (April 27). Wiznitzer comes to Ohio after spending the last two seasons at Louisville, while Hunter comes to the Bobcats after three years at Old Dominion. 
 
"We welcome Gabe and Jaylin to our Bobcat basketball family," Boals said.  "Both are high character young men who will fit right into our culture."
 
Hunter comes to Ohio after playing in and starting all 32 games last season for Old Dominion, while averaging 34.5 minutes per game. A team captain for Old Dominion, Hunter averaged 9.7 points to go along with 4.0 assists and 3.8 rebounds per game. Hunter recorded double figures in scoring 16 times, while scoring a career-high 20 points at North Texas and at Western Kentucky. He led Old Dominion in free throw percentage (.843) which was seventh-best single-season mark in school history. Hunter dished out six or more assists eight times, including nine in a home win over Marshall. He shared the team lead in 3-pointers made (41) and had best 3-point percentage (.339). Hunter hit a career-high four 3-pointers against Western Kentucky and UTSA. Hunter was an Honorable Mention All-Tournament Team at Myrtle Beach Invitational and ranked in the top 10 in C-USA in: assists (7th), steals (10th), assist-to-turnover ratio (4th), minutes played (7th). 
 
"Jaylin is a winner and will bring many intangibles to our program," Boals said. "He won two state high school tournaments and has been around the game his whole life." 
 
In his career, Hunter has played in 84 games while making 34 starts while averaging 22.5 minutes a game. He's averages 6.3 points and 2.4 rebounds, while shooting .389 from the field, .300 from three and .814 from the line. He has also dished out a career total 184 assists and grabbed 85 steals. 
 
Wiznitzer comes to Ohio after two seasons at Louisville. During his first season with the Cardinals, Wiznitzer planned to redshirt, however took the opportunity of the extra year of eligibility to play. During that season, Wiznitzer saw action in 12 games and averaged 5.7 minutes a game and 1.3 rebounds. Last season, Wiznitzer played in five games and averaged 6.2 minutes a game before dealing with a wrist injury 
 
"Gabe will give us another big presence in the paint," Boals said. "He was highly recruited out of high school, and we feel fortunate to get him as a transfer."
 
Prior to his time at Louisville, Wiznitzer Averaged 14.2 points and 10.1 rebounds a game, while shooting 42 percent from three-point range on the postgraduate team for Hargrave Military Academy. That season, Hargrave achieved a 37-4 record and reached the semifinals of the national prep championship.
