Women's Basketball Defeats Eastern Michigan

ATHENS, Ohio— Led by freshman Yaya Felder (Hartford, Conn.), the Ohio women's basketball team (12-9, 6-6 MAC) broke their losing streak, defeating Eastern Michigan (5-16, 2-12) 66-53. Felder set a career-high, scoring a team-leading 20 points, while senior Gabby Burris (Baltimore, Ohio) was close behind with 18 points scored and six rebounds.
"They missed some shots, but I was very pleased with their defensive effort," said head coach Bob Boldon.
Redshirt junior Kaylee Bambule (Plainfield, Ill.) put the Bobcats ahead with a three-pointer, putting the score at 9-7 heading into the first media timeout of the night. Felder and senior Cece Hooks (Dayton, Ohio) continued to build on Ohio's lead, scoring five additional points and giving the Bobcats' a 14-7 lead after the first 10 minutes of play.
Eastern Michigan kicked off the second period with a 10-4 run, broken up by back-to-back baskets from freshman Madi Mace (Parkersburg, W.Va.). In the remaining six minutes, Ohio scored 17 points to EMU's 13, maintaining a 35-30 lead. In the first 20 minutes of play, the Bobcats were 14-31 (45.2 percent) from the field. Felder led the team with 14 points while Hooks had six rebounds.
Eastern Michigan scored the first three points of the third period, but Ohio answered with a seven-point run, broken up when EMU made two free throws. Hooks led the team with six points in the third, closely followed by Burris, who had five. The Bobcats scored 14 points total, heading into the last 10 minutes with a nine-point lead. EMU attempted to close the gap in the fourth, scoring seven of the first 10 points, but Felder, Burris and Bambule tacked on a combined 17 points, solidifying Ohio's 66-53 victory. From the field, Ohio shot 22-59 (37.3 percent) and sunk 50 percent of their attempted three-point baskets while Eastern Michigan went 21-64 (32.8 percent) from the field.
