FARMVILLE, Virginia – The Ohio women's basketball team (0-2, 0-0) played their first road game of the 2022-23 season against the Longwood Lancers (1-1, 0-0). The non-conference matchup was a back and forth battle between the two teams with frequent lead switches. Jasmine Hale and Yaya Felder led the Bobcats with 12 points each reaching double-figures on offense, whereas Caitlyn Kroll led the defense with 6 total rebounds; 5 defensive, 1 offensive.
The Bobcats started strong in the first quarter, putting up a combined seventeen points. They were 7-14 (50%) in FG's in the first 10 minutes, 1-5 (20%) in 3PT's, and 2-2 (100%) in FT's. Yaya Felder had a steal early on in the first quarter that resulted in a layup from Jasmine Holt putting the Bobcats up 6-0. The lead continued to increase with points from Ella Pope, Jaya McClure, and Caitlyn Kroll.
Longwood came out in the second quarter eager to compete with the Bobcats, sinking four jumpers, and 2 three pointers. This gave the Lancers a 33-28 lead before the Bobcats headed into the locker room for half. Totaling the second quarter stats for Ohio resulted in 3-16 (18.75%) FG's, 0-6 (0%) 3PT's, and 5-7 (71.43%) for free throws.
Ohio started the second half with Jasmine Hale putting up an immediate layup to regain the momentum for the Bobcats. Ella Pope then grabbed a defensive rebound to give Yaya another scoring opportunity. The Bobcats closed the gap at 35 all and regained the lead quickly after with a three pointer from Kate Dennis. The score was equal once more at 48-48, before Jaya McClure and Caitlyn Kroll both put up two points to end the 3rd ahead 50-46.
The fourth and final quarter turned out to be a heartbreaker for the Bobcats. Within the first 90 seconds the Lancers got the game back to 50 apiece and the lead continued to shift back and forth for the rest of the game. Ohio and Longwood stayed within 3 points of each other, and within 1 point for the last two minutes of the game. Ohio led 65-64 until Lancer's Janay Turner scored a jumper with 6 seconds left on the clock to take the victory 66-65. Ohio finished with no technicals, 38 points in the paint, 17 bench points, 15 points off turn-overs, 7 fast break points, and 6 second chance points.

Ohio will return home to the Convo on Thursday Nov. 17th to take on the Ohio State Buckeyes. The game is scheduled to tip-off at 7 p.m.
