
Ohio Swimming and Diving Conclude Day One of Ohio Invite

ATHENS, Ohio – The Ohio swimming and diving team returned to action Friday evening for the 2022 Ohio Invitational inside the Ohio University Aquatic Center. After the first day of competition, the Bobcats lead with 525 points, followed by Wingate (353), Findlay (168) and Bellarmine (122).
The Bobcats opened the night with the 200-yard backstroke, where Ohio took four of the top-five finishes. Junior Riley Bunstine (Alexandria, Ohio) took second place with a time of 2:03.05, while freshman Allison Schrank (Blaine, Minn.) took third with a time of 2:05.02. Senior Emma Fortman (Madeira, Ohio) placed fourth in 2:05.30, while freshman Lauren Hartel (Arlington, Va.) finished fifth with an overall time of 2:06.08.
In the 100-yard free, senior McKenzie Grau (Mason, Ohio) took first place, touching in with a time of 51.80, while junior Caroline Dunigan (Lansdale, Pa.) finished in second with a time of 52.41. Junior Gabrielle Brust (Granville, Ohio) earned a fourth-place finish with a time of 52.56, and junior Meg Voigt (Bryan, Ohio) placed fifth in 53.17.
The 200-yard breaststroke also saw the Bobcats take the top-two spots, with freshman Annmaria Hornyak (Debrecen, Hungary) taking the top spot in 2:18.67. Fellow freshman Casadie DiBetta (St. Clairsville, Ohio) took second place with a time of 2:19.90. In fourth place, sophomore Julia Strine (Shippensburg, Pa.) finished in 2:22.77, while freshman Anna McGrath placed fifth in 2:23.33.
In the 200-yard fly, the Bobcats took the top-five spots, with Brust taking first place with a time of 2:02.87. Senior Madeline Marks (Bentonville, Ark.) finished second in 2:05.68, while junior Peyton Farrell (Beavercreek, Ohio) touched in in 2:07.37 and a third-place finish. Junior Morgan Croaning (Carmel, Ind.) finished in fourth (2:07.82) and sophomore Gabrielle McKee (Gilbertsville, Pa.) placed fifth with an overall time of 2:09.22.
In the final event of the evening, the 400-yard free relay, the Ohio 'A' team of Fortman, Grau, Voigt and Dunigan placed first with a time of 3:28.15. The Ohio 'B' team of Hartel, Marks, McGrath and senior Maya Conte (Brecksville, Ohio) finished third with a time of 3:32.73.
In the 3-meter dive event that took place earlier in the afternoon, senior Halli Siwik (Fishers, Ind.) took first place with a score of 294.00. Fellow senior Sienna Breton (Cheshire, Conn.) finished second with a score of 271.80. Sophomore Sophia Cooper (Milford, Ohio) placed fifth, finishing with a score of 234.15.
The Bobcats are back in action for the second day of the 2022 Ohio Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 15. Diving will begin at 8 a.m., with swim session two set for 10 a.m. The event will conclude at 5 p.m. with the final swim session.
