ATHENS, Ohio -- The Ohio softball team (14-15, 10-10 MAC) dropped the series finale with Bowling Green (17-18, 9-11 MAC), 2-1, Sunday afternoon (April 18), splitting the weekend series.  

Senior centerfielder Allie Englant (Long Beach, Calif.) led the way at the plate, going 2-for-3 and adding a pair of stolen bases. Junior rightfielder Caitlin Fogue (Columbia, Mo.) scored the lone run for the Bobcats. 

After three innings of scoreless play, Bowling Green put the first run on the board. Evelyn Loyola broke the scoreless tie with a solo home run to left field in the fourth to give the Falcons a 1-0 lead.

Leading off in the fifth, Fogue took first on a hit by pitch and advanced to second on a sac bunt. Englant laid down a bunt single, reaching second on an error by the pitcher, giving Fogue enough time to scamper home to tie the game at one. 

The Falcons extended their lead to 2-1 in the sixth frame. The Falcons got on first with a leadoff single by Greta L'Esperance. Makailah Dees put the ball in play, getting out at first. It was enough to advance the runner to third, who ultimately scored on the throw. 

In the circle, junior pitcher Mackensie Kohl (Corona Del Mar, Calif.) suffered the loss, allowing two runs on five hits and striking out three. For the Falcons, Payton Gottshall gave up two hits and one run, unearned, while striking out 11 batters.

The Bobcats host Akron for a doubleheader on Tuesday (April 20). First pitch is set for 1 p.m. ET at the Ohio Softball Field.
