Ohio Swimming and Diving Wraps up Successful MAC Championships in Fourth Place

YPSILANTI, Mich. – The Ohio swimming and diving team wrapped up the 2021 Mid-American Conference Championships on Saturday (April 17), finishing in fourth place with 390 points. Sophomore Emma Fortman (Madeira, Ohio), senior Katherine Garrity (Eagan, Minn.) and freshman Gabrielle Brust (Granville, Ohio) were all named Second Team All-MAC after Saturday's competition.
The Bobcats fourth-place finish is Ohio's highest finish at the MAC Championships since 2013.
"I am extremely proud of what this team has been able to accomplish this year," head coach Mason Norman said. "We finished the highest that we have since 2013. Thanks to the leadership of our four seniors, we were able to stay motivated over the course of an extended season."
Garrity got the Bobcats started on Saturday in the 1,650-yard freestyle, finishing in fifth place with a time of 16:53.72. Freshman Olivia Morlok (Columbus, Ind.) placed eighth with a time of 16:58.18.
In the 200-yard backstroke, senior Samantha Glass (Villa Hills, Ky.) finished eighth in 2:01.85, while Fortman finished the 'B' final in third place, 11th overall, with a time of 2:00.57.
Sophomore McKenzie Grau (Mason, Ohio) finished in eighth-pace in the 100 free with a time of 50.84. Meanwhile, redshirt sophomore Kelsey Morgan (Pickerington, Ohio) finished in fourth place in the 200-yard breaststroke, clocking in with a time of 2:15.86.
Sophomore Madeline Marks (Bentonville, Ark.) placed eighth in the 200 fly, touching in at 2:01.28.
In relay action, the 400-yard freestyle relay squad of Grau, Fortman, Brust and redshirt sophomore Kendra Sheehan (Columbus, Ohio) finished fifth with a time of 3:24.24.
"Thanks to the administration, athletic training staff, and the support staff for their support all year," Norman said. "I'm looking forward to what the program is going to continue to do in the future."
