YPSILANTI, Mich. – The Ohio swimming and diving team opened competition at the 2021 Mid-American Conference Championships on Thursday (April 15) at Jones Natatorium on the campus of Eastern Michigan.
After one day of competition, the Bobcats sit in fourth place with 114 points.
To open the evening session, the Ohio 200-yard freestyle relay team of sophomore McKenzie Grau (Mason, Ohio), freshman Caroline Dunigan (Lansdale, Pa.), sophomore Emma Fortman (Madeira, Ohio) and freshman Meg Voigt (Bryan, Ohio) finished in fifth place with a time of 1:32.59.
Fortman was back in action in the 500-yard free finals, placing fourth with a time of 4:50.50, which was four seconds faster than her preliminary time from this morning. Senior Katherine Garrity (Eagan, Minn.) finished the 'B' final in first place, and ninth overall, with a time of 4:53.32.
Freshman Gabrielle Brust (Granville, Ohio) was in action in the 200-yard IM, finishing sixth with a time of 2:01.09. Meanwhile Grau was back individually later in the evening with the 50 free, placing 11th with a time of 23.46.
In the 1-meter dive event, sophomore Halli Siwik (Fishers, Ind.) placed first in the 'B' final, and ninth overall, registering a score of 259.30.
In the final event of the evening, the 400-yard medley relay, the Ohio squad of Brust, Fortman, redshirt sophomore Kelsey Morgan (Pickerington, Ohio) and redshirt sophomore Kendra Sheehan (Columbus, Ohio) placed fourth, finishing in 3:41.43.
The Bobcats are back in action for day two of the MAC Championships tomorrow (April 16). Preliminary races are set to begin at 10:30 a.m., with finals scheduled for 6 p.m.
