AKRON, Ohio -- The Ohio women's basketball team (12-7, 10-6 MAC) fell to Akron (7-13, 4-13 MAC), 71-67, on Wednesday evening at James A. Rhodes Arena.
"I thought our team deserved a lot of credit, we dug ourselves a hole – Akron played well and we didn't early – and we showed some resilience and toughness by digging back into the game," head coach Bob Boldon said. "We gave ourselves some chances down the stretch and we missed some shots we would have liked to have made. That's the way basketball goes and we'll get back to practice tomorrow and try to be better on Saturday."
Ohio was led by senior guard Cece Hooks (Dayton, Ohio), who posted her second double-double of the season and fifth of her career after recording 33 points and 10 rebounds. Hooks had 30 or more points for the fourth time this season and the ninth time in her career. Hooks was 11-of-28 from the field and 11-of-13 from the free-throw line. The all-time steals leader added seven swipes and two assists in 37 minutes on the floor.
Redshirt freshman Madi Mace (Parkersburg, W. Va.) posted 11 points and seven rebounds in 35 minutes on the floor.
In her first start at Ohio, redshirt junior Jasmine Hale (Cincinnati, Ohio) had nine points and five rebounds in 29 minutes on the floor after shooting 4-of-7.
Senior forward Gabby Burris (Baltimore, Ohio) recorded eight points and six rebounds while redshirt junior guard Kaylee Bambule (Plainfield, Ill.) also added six points.
Overall, Ohio was 23-of-65 (35.4 percent) from the field and 4-of-20 (20.0 percent) from the three-point line, while Akron was 28-of-56 (50.0 percent) and 6-of-18 (33.3 percent) from deep.
Ohio outrebounded Akron, 44-33. Hooks led Ohio with 10 boards, while Mace had seven. Burris and redshirt sophomore forward Abby Garnett (Golden, Colo.) each had six rebounds.
OU forced 19 turnovers and had 16 steals. Hooks' seven was a game-high, while Hale had three and Burris and Bambule recorded two each. Ohio had 13 points off of Akron turnovers.
The Bobcats will wrap up the regular season on Saturday against Miami. Tip-off at the Convocation Center is set for 1 p.m.
