
Ohio's Guillen Places Third at 133 Pounds at 2021 MAC Wrestling Championships

TRENTON, N.J. -- Redshirt senior Mario Guillen (Perrysburg, Ohio) earned a spot at the 2021 NCAA Division i Championships in St. Louis, Missouri, with a third-place finish at the 2021 Mid-American Conference Championships on Saturday (February 27) at Cure Insurance Arena.
Guillen defeated Cole Rhone from Bloomsburg with a fall in the third-place match to cement himself on the podium. He was Ohio's top scorer with 15.5 team points. Guillen will be headed to the NCAA Championships for the second time in three years. He earned an at-large bid to nationals in 2019.
As a team, the Bobcats finished 12th with 34 points. Missouri won its ninth-straight MAC title, finishing with 189.5 points, followed by Central Michigan (125 points) and host Rider (120.5 points).
Two other Bobcats placed at the 2021 MAC Championships.
Redshirt sophomore Colt Yinger (Nelsonville, Ohio) earned seventh place in the 165-pound division. Yinger started his day with a loss to Kolby Ho of Clarion in the third consolation round. He bounced back with a 4-2 decision win over Neil Schuster of George Mason. Yinger earned 4.5 team points for Ohio.
Redshirt senior Jake Walker (Sarasota, Fla.) started the second day of competition with a loss against Matt Correnti of Rider. Walker was defeated again in the fifth place match by Gage Braun of Norther Illinois in an 8-2 decision. Walker took sixth place and earned eight team points for Ohio.
The 2021 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships will be held March 18-20 at the Enterprise Center in St. Louis, Missouri. The NCAA Division I Wrestling Committee will meet to select the remaining at-large bids, which will be released on March 10. Each division will have 33 qualifiers, and at least four at-large bids will be handed out in each weight class. The at-large selections will be made based on the following criteria: head-to-head competition, quality wins, coaches' ranking, results against common opponents, RPI, qualifying event placement, and winning percentage.
