OXFORD, Ohio – The Ohio (4-3, 2-2 MAC) women's basketball team earned a Battle of the Bricks win over Miami (1-7, 0-4 MAC), 72-63, on Wednesday evening inside Millett Hall.

"We didn't play fast enough in the first half which is kind of atypical," head coach Bob Boldon said. "We've been doing pretty well and the ball has been moving. I don't think 28 first-half points is anything we are thrilled with, but I am happy our defense showed up and kept us in the game long enough to have a nice third quarter. We can build on this and be a little bit better on Saturday."

Ohio was led by senior guard Cece Hooks (Dayton, Ohio), who had 26 points on 9-of-15 shooting. Hooks was 8-of-12 from the free-throw line and pulled down five rebounds and added a season-high five steals.

Hooks improved her scoring average to 25.1 points per game this season. Coming into tonight, Hooks was sixth in the nation and first in the Mid-American Conference in scoring.

Senior forward Gabby Burris (Baltimore, Ohio) added a season-high 19 points on 7-of-10 shooting with one made three-pointer. Burris added five rebounds and one assist in the win. Burris has had 10 or more points in her last six games.

"I think our team was really flowing well together and that makes knocking down shots a lot easier," Burris said. "I was able to make open shots and stay locked in."

"Gabby's a really good basketball player and she takes what she is given," Boldon said. "Her teammates really trust her and she was really efficient tonight. She made a three, made her shots around the rim and got to the foul line. It was a typical Gabby Burris night."

Redshirt junior guard Erica Johnson (Mansfield, Ohio) recorded 13 points and pulled down four rebounds while dishing out four assists.

Adding to the scoring was redshirt junior guard Caitlyn Kroll (Bridgeport, Ohio) who had seven points with one made three. Sophomore guard Peyton Guice (Westerville, Ohio) had five points with one made three, while redshirt freshman guard Madi Mace (Parkersburg, W. Va.) added two.

Overall, Ohio shot 25-of-50 (50.0 percent) from the field and 3-of-16 (18.8 percent) from the three-point line. Miami was held to 25-of-59 (42.4 percent) shooting and 3-of-11 (27.3 percent) from the arc. Ohio was 19-of-33 (57.6 percent) from the free-throw line, while the Redhawks were 10-of-14 (71.4 percent).

Ohio forced 27 MU turnovers and recorded 13 steals. Hooks – Ohio's career record holder in that category – added five steals. Kroll produced three swipes, while Guice had two. Ohio had 29 points off of turnovers while Miami had 18.

OU was outrebounded by Miami, 40-29. Seven of Ohio's 29 boards were on the offensive glass. Burris, Hooks, Kroll and Guice all tied for the Ohio high with five.

The Bobcats assisted on 10 buckets. Johnson paced Ohio with four while Hooks had two. Burris, Kroll, Mace and redshirt junior guard Kaylee Bambule (Plainfield, Ill.) all had one.

Ohio will continue MAC play on Saturday against Toledo. Tip-off at the Convocation Center in Athens, Ohio is set at 1 p.m.
