
Ohio Swimming & Diving Enjoys Decisive Victory Over Toledo

ATHENS, Ohio -- The Ohio swimming & diving team (4-1) recorded a decisive 217-82 victory over Toledo on Saturday (January 30) at the Ohio University Aquatic Center, with the Bobcats claiming wins in 14 of the 16 events.
"We challenged our team this week to step up and make a statement at this meet," said third-year head coach Mason Norman. "The score reflects a team effort across the board. They are extremely motivated to perform for one another in training and competition. The result today was a reflection of that. We are looking forward to our next challenge."
The Bobcats bookended the meet with a pair of relay victories. Ohio's 'A' team of sophomore Emma Fortman (Madeira, Ohio), redshirt sophomore Kelsey Morgan (Pickerington, Ohio), redshirt sophomore Kendra Sheehan (Columbus, Ohio) and sophomore McKenzie Grau (Mason, Ohio) combined to win the 400-yard medley relay in 3:52.07. The 'A' team of Grau, sophomore Maya Conte (Brecksville, Ohio), freshman Mollie Brackett (Appleton, Wis.) and Sheehan joined forces to claim first place in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:37.38.
Individually, Grau won both the 50-yard freestyle (23.93) and 100-yard freestyle (51.91). Sheehan took first in the 100-yard butterfly (58.05) and finished third in the 50-yard freestyle (24.88). Fortman finished first in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:53.86 and turned in a pair of second-place finishes in the 100-yard freestyle (52.70) and the 500-yard freestyle (5:10.36). Morgan posted wins in both the 100-yard breaststroke (1:05.61) and the 200-yard breaststroke (2:22.00). Conte took second in both the 200-yard freestyle (1:56.18) and 50-yard freestyle (24.78) while Brackett earned a third-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle (1:57.33).
Senior Katherine Garrity (Eagan, Minn.) won the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:36.73. She was joined in the top-three by freshman Cecelia Creviston (Cincinnati, Ohio), who took third in 10:52.27. Garrity also posted a third-place finish in the 500-yard backstroke, clocking a time of 5:10.97.
Senior Samantha Glass (Villa Hills, Ky.) and sophomore Grace Riddle (Canal Winchester, Ohio) took first and second, respectively, in both the 100-yard backstroke and 200-yard backstroke. Glass recorded a time of 58.83 in the 100 and a 2:05.64 in the 200 while Riddle posted a 59.54 in the 100 and a 2:09.98 in the 200. The pair was joined in the top-three of the 200 by freshman Abigail Duncan (Bridgeville, Pa.), who finished third with a time of 2:12.49. Glass also turned in a second-place finish in the 200-yard individual medley courtesy of a time of 2:09.37.
Sophomore Madeline Marks (Bentonville, Ark.) provided Ohio with wins in both the 200-yard butterfly (2:04.26) and the 500-yard freestyle (5:06.82). She also placed third in the 200-yard individual medley in 2:11.15.
Sophomore Halli Siwik (Fishers, Ind.) won the three-meter dive with a score of 258.30 and took second on one-meter with a score of 248.78.
Freshman Peyton Farrell (Beavercreek, Ohio) took second place in the 200-yard butterfly (2:07.69) and third in the 100-yard butterfly (58.33) while senior Katelyn O'Brien (Williams Bay, Wis.) placed second in both the 100-yard breaststroke (1:09.02) and the 200-yard breaststroke (2:30.15).
Freshman Rachel Klem (Canton, Ohio) turned in a pair of third-place finishes for the Bobcats with a 2:30.31 in the 200-yard breaststroke and a 1:09.40 in the 100-yard breaststroke.
Ohio is slated to return to the pool February 27-28 at the Akron Invite.
