JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – The Ohio baseball team (3-11) dropped games to Wagner (6-7) and East Tennessee State (12-2) today. Ohio fell to Wagner in the opening game of the day, 4-3, and ETSU in the finale at Thomas Stadium, 6-4.
GAME ONE VS. WAGNER (BOX SCORE PDF)
Redshirt junior Dan McCauley (Pittsburgh, Pa.) hit a three-run home run in the top of the second inning to right-center field. McCauley finished the day 2-for-4 with a home run, single, three RBIs and a run scored.
Both redshirt sophomore INF Michael Richardson (Cambridge, Md.) and redshirt junior DH Devonte Washington (Twinsburg, Ohio) had doubles. Junior OF Isaiah Peterson (Lincoln, Neb.) went 2-for-4 with two singles. Junior INF Aaron Levy (Cincinnati, Ohio) reached base three times after a single and two walks.
Junior LHP Alex Kuster (Lake Orion, Mich.) tossed 3.0 innings without allowing a hit or an earned run. Kuster has now made five appearances for Ohio and has not allowed an earned run in 9.0 innings pitched this season.
Redshirt sophomore RHP Jack Liberatore (Greensburg, Pa.) started for Ohio and struck out three batters in 3.0 innings. Junior LHP Brett Manis (Port Huron, Mich.) fell to 0-1 this season after allowing one earned run. Manis fanned three batters and pitched 3.0 innings.
Ohio busted the scoring open in the bottom of the second inning with a three-run home run to right-center field that scored senior INF Trevor Hafner (Perrysburg, Ohio) and redshirt sophomore OF Trevor Lukkes (Tustin, Calif.). Lukkes reached on a single to left field and Hafner on a walk.
Wagner scored twice in the top of the third inning on a Cody Bey double and a David Melfi walk to cut the OU lead to 3-2.
The Seahawks tied the game with an Alex Cimaroli sacrifice fly in the eighth.
Wagner took the lead in the top of the ninth from Mike Ruggiero and won, 4-3.
GAME TWO VS. ETSU (BOX SCORE PDF)
McCauley kept his hot bat going in the second game and drove in two RBIs. McCauley had seven RBIs this weekend.
Peterson went 3-for-5 with a double and one RBI. Peterson hit a team-best .462 over the weekend with one double. Junior INF Treyben Funderburg (Beavercreek, Ohio) also went 3-for-5.
Richardson reached on a walk and scored two runs. Redshirt sophomore INF Cole Revels (Charlotte, N.C.) went 2-for-4 and scored a run.
Junior RHP Chace Harris (New Marshfield, Ohio) tossed 2.0 innings and struck out one batter while allowing just one batter to reach base. Sophomore RHP Colin Sells (Lancaster, Ohio) pitched 2.0 innings and allowed one earned run. Sophomore RHP Braxton Kelly (Ulysses, Ky.) dropped to 1-2 in his second start this season after allowing three earned runs while striking out a season-high seven in 4.0 innings.
ETSU scored first with a David Beam single in the first inning.
The Bucs added a run with a single in the third inning from Jackson Greer.
ETSU extended their lead to 5-0 in the fourth inning with a single, wild pitch and groundout to the shortstop.
East Tennessee State scored its final run in the fifth inning with an infield single.
Ohio first got on the board in the eighth inning with a McCauley single up the middle to score Funderburg and Richardson. Funderburg reached on a single through the left side of the infield and Richardson reached on a walk.
OU added two more runs in the ninth. Revels scored on an error by the second baseman and the Richardson scored after a Peterson double.

Ohio will hold its home opener against Marshall on Tuesday, March 10 at 4 p.m.
