Ohio Baseball Falls in Game Two to Kent State

ATHENS, Ohio – The Ohio baseball team (6-24, 3-11 MAC) hosted Kent State (22-7, 11-3 MAC) at Bob Wren Stadium Friday night for the second game of a weekend series. The Golden Flashes won the game via run-rule in seven innings by a final score of 13-1.

Ohio tallied one run on four hits with one error, while Kent State recorded 15 runs on 11 hits and contributed no errors.

At the plate, Ohio's lone run was contributed by junior catcher Tyler Stack (Osswego, Ill.), who went two-for-two with a home run on the day.

Sophomore left-handed pitcher Hunter Winston (Hinckley, Ohio) got the start for Ohio, going four innings, allowing six runs on seven hits while striking out one. Senior lefty Dillon Masters (New Albany, Ohio) had a successful day out of the bullpen, pitching one inning, allowing no hits, and recording two strikeouts.

After a scoreless first by both teams, Kent State got on the board first after stringing together a couple of hits to take a 1-0 lead.

The Bobcats responded in the bottom half of the third when Stack sent a ball over the left field fence for a game-tying homer to lead off the inning. At the end of three innings, Kent State and Ohio each had two hits and one run scored.

Kent State broke the game open in the middle innings. After taking the lead back with a single run in the fourth, the team exploded for five runs in the fifth and six runs in the sixth innings to take a 13-1 lead.

The Golden Flashes added two more in the seventh before the game was called due to the run-rule in the seventh.

Up next, Ohio will conclude its weekend with Kent State tomorrow (April 4). First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. and can be seen on ESPN+.
