MOREHEAD, Ky. – The Ohio baseball team (6-26, 3-12 MAC) fell 10-2 at Morehead State (16-16, 5-5 OVC) on Tuesday, April 7.
The Bobcats scored two runs on five hits with one error, while Morehead State scored 10 runs on 15 hits with one error.
Graduate student infielder Colton Shirley (Anderson, Ind.) tallied the Bobcats' lone RBI in the game with a single in the seventh. Senior outfielder Cam Hill (Chicago, Ill.) scored one of Ohio's runs after reaching on a single in the seventh.
Freshman lefthander Evan Lichtenauer (Newark, Ohio) got the start for Ohio, pitching five innings, allowing seven hits and two earned runs with a strikeout. In relief, junior righty Ethan Stewart (Langsville, Ohio) pitched one and two-thirds innings, striking out and allowing no runs on one hit.
Lichtenauer got off to a good start, pitching back-to-back scoreless frames before Morehead State got on the board in the third with a run.
The game remained 1-0 till the Eagles took a big lead with six total runs in the fifth and sixth innings. Morehead State took a 7-0 lead into the game's final three innings.
In the seventh, Ohio put its first runs of the game on the board. Hill got the rally started with a one-out single to give the Bobcats a base runner. Shirley would bring Hill around to score later in the inning on a one-out single before an error brought around a second Ohio.
Despite scoring two runs earlier in the inning, Morehead State responded with three of its own in the bottom half of the seventh to take a 10-2 lead into the eighth.
Ohio couldn't respond in the eighth or ninth, falling to Morehead State 10-2.
Up next, the Bobcats will take on rival Miami (OH) in a weekend road series. The first game will get started Friday, April 10 at 3 p.m.
