CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – The Ohio baseball team (3-7) dropped both games of a doubleheader to Southeast Missouri State (5-6) at Capaha Field on Saturday afternoon. Ohio fell to SEMO in the first game – a seven-inning contest - 3-0, and in the second game – a nine-inning contest - 9-2.

GAME ONE (BOX SCORE PDF)

Redshirt sophomore RHP Jack Liberatore (Greenburg, Pa.) tossed a complete game for Ohio in the start of the first game of the doubleheader. Liberatore pitched 6.0 innings and struck out five batters. Liberatore fell to 1-2 after allowing three earned runs.

Junior INF Treyben Funderburg (Beavercreek, Ohio) went 2-for-3 with a double and a single. Senior INF Trevor Hafner (Perrysburg, Ohio) had a single.

SEMO took the lead in the third inning on a three-run home run from Andrew Keck.

GAME TWO (BOX SCORE PDF)

Ohio was led on offense by redshirt sophomore Michael Richardson (Cambridge, Md.), who was 1-for-3 with a double and one RBI off a sacrifice fly. Freshman C Alex Finney (Oxford, Mich.) had one RBI for Ohio. Both redshirt senior OF Ryan Sargent (Algonquin, Ill.) and freshman DH Andrew Russell (Champion, Ohio) went 2-for-4. Sargent ripped his first double of the year while Russell scored a run. Redshirt freshman Xavier Haendiges (Salem, Ind.) was 1-for-3 with a single, run scored and walk.

Junior LHP Alex Kuster (Lake Orion, Mich.) tossed 1.1 innings of shutout baseball. Junior RHP Edward Kutt IV (Westlake, Calif.) earned his first start for Ohio and dropped to 0-1 this season in his fourth appearance on the mound. Kutt IV struck out four batters and allowed five earned runs. Junior RHP Chace Harris (New Marshfield, Ohio) pitched 4.0 innings for Ohio and fanned four batters while allowing four earned runs.

SEMO opened the scoring in the bottom of the first on a single from Justin Dirden and extended their lead in the bottom of the second inning on a double from Landon Hahn.

Keck's double, an Alex Blazevic ground out and Wade Stauss double extended the SEMO lead to 5-0. The Redhawks added two runs in the bottom of the sixth on singles and a solo home run in the seventh from Stauss gave SEMO a 9-0 lead.

Ohio scored twice in the eighth. Russell started the inning with a single up the middle and Sargent doubled down the left field line to move Russell to third. After a Haendiges walk, a Finney fielder's choice brought home Russell. Hafner walked to load the bases, and Richardson hit a sacrifice fly to right field that scored Haendiges.
