YORKTOWN, Ind. â Ohio womenâs golf senior Hailey Hrynewich finished the 2016 Cardinal Classic in third place, while the womenâs golf team wrapped up competition with a ninth-place finish after shooting a 305 for a combined three-round total of 914 (+50).
Eastern Kentucky won this yearâs tournament, finishing the Cardinal Classic with a total score of 874 (+10).
Hrynewich (Muskegon, Mich.) entered Tuesday after shooting a 70 and a 73 in the first two rounds of competition, leaving her in third place after day one. Hrynewich concluded play at the Cardinal Classic by shooting a 72 to finish the tournament with a two-day total of 215 (-1) and a third-place finish. This is Hrynewichâs second top-four finish of the year.
Next for the Bobcats was freshman Marissa Balish (Allison Park, Pa.), who closed out the tournament by shooting a 75 and giving her a two-day total of 231 (+15). Balishâs strong showing on Tuesday pushed her up the leaderboard and tied her for 40th place.
Sophomore Nicole Smiley (Dublin, Ohio) and junior Lily Pendy (Grosse Pointe Farms, Mich.) were next for the Bobcats. Smiley finished Tuesday by shooting an 83, giving her a final tournament total of 236 (+20) and tied for 54th place. Pendy finished the day with a 79, giving her a total of 237 (+21) and tying her for 59th place.
Sophomore Emily Hughes (Columbus, Ohio) wrapped up the tournament by finishing the day tied for 65th place. Hughes finished the day with a 79 for a total tournament score of 239 (+23).
Playing unattached for Ohio was senior Emily Cunningham (Winston, Ga.). Cunningham wrapped up the tournament by finished Tuesday with a score of 84, giving her a three-day total of 239 (+23) and tying her for 65th place.
The Bobcats return to the course Sept. 24-25 for the Mary Fossum Invitational. The tournament will take place at the Forrest Akers Golf Course in East Lansing, Mich. and will be hosted by Michigan State.
