NOBLESVILLE, Ind. â€" After an historical second day at the Mid-American Conference Championships, the Ohio women’s golf team currently sits in third place after shooting a 292 on Saturday to finish with a two round total of 593 (+17). Freshman Emily Hughes currently sits tied for second place on the individual leaderboard after shooting a 69, the lowest single round score ever by a Bobcat at MACs.
The 292 shot by the Bobcats in the second round is the second-lowest round ever by the Bobcats, and their two round total of 593 is the second-lowest two round total by the Bobcats in program history.
“I am so proud of this team,†head coach Kelly Ovington said. “ They have all put in some solid work in order to put ourselves in this position. Tomorrow is a new day and we are looking forward to finishing strong.â€
Hughes (Columbus, Ohio) is currently tied for second place on the individual leaderboard after shooting her lowest score of the season and her career thus far, finishing Saturday with a 69 for a two-day score of 142 (-2). Hughes’ 69 is also the lowest score by a Bobcat this season and is tied for the third lowest all-time in Ohio history. Hughes’ round is tied for the lowest at MACs and is the lowest round ever by a Bobcat at MACs.
“Emily [Hughes] is an outstanding golfer and today’s round was one of the many to come for this up and coming Bobcat,†Ovington said.
Junior Hailey Hrynewich (Muskegon, Mich.) is currently tied for 10th place after shooting a second round score of 73 to finish the second day with a two-day total of 147 (+3).
Sophomore Lily Pendy (Grosse Pointe Farms, Mich.) climbed up the leaderboard, finishing the day tied for 16th place after shooting a 73 on the day, tying her season low round. After two days, Pendy had a two-round total of 150 (+6).
Senior Angela Codian (Massillon, Ohio) finished the second round with a score of 77, giving her a two-day total of 154 (+10) and finished the day tied for 31st place.
Rounding out the Bobcat five is senior Lauren McKinzie (Medina, Ohio) who finished the day tied for 45th place after shooting a 79 on Saturday for a two-day total of 161 (+17).
After two days, Kent State leads the field, sitting in first place with a team score of 579 (+3).
The Bobcats wrap up the 2016 MAC Championships tomorrow (April 24) with the third round set to begin at 8 a.m.
