THE BASICS
The Ohio baseball team (5-7) earned its first midweek win of the 2016 season, taking down rival Marshall (4-6), 4-1, on Wednesday (March 9) at Kennedy Center Field in Huntington, W. Va.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• The Bobcats totaled 14 hits while the Thundering Herd managed eight.
• Redshirt senior catcher Cody Gaertner (Pittsburgh, Pa.) went 4-for-5 with two RBI.
• Junior left fielder Mitch Longo (Mayfield, Ohio) finished 3-for-4 with two runs scored.
• Freshman first baseman Rudy Rott (Holmen, Wis.) went 2-for-4 with a double, an RBI and a run scored.
• Senior third baseman John Adryan (Delran, N.J.) singled, doubled and scored a run.
• Redshirt sophomore southpaw starting pitcher Gerry Salisbury (Brunswick, Ohio) tossed four scoreless innings, striking out two while allowing four runs and a walk.
• Sophomore right-handed reliever Logan Jacik (Omaha, Neb.) earned the pitching win to improve to 2-0 on the season, throwing a scoreless frame. He walked one.
• Junior right-handed pitcher Tom Colletti (Wheaton, Ill.) posted two scoreless frames. He gave up two hits and a walk.
• Junior lefty Matt Mikolajczak (New Lenox, Ill.), redshirt senior right-hander Eddie Fitzpatrick (North Attleboro, Mass.) and redshirt sophomore righty Jake Roehn (Sandwich, Ill.) combined to hurl two innings of relief. Mikolajczak struck out one in 0.2 innings while Roehn allowed an earned run on one hit.
• Junior center fielder Corey Bird led Marshall with a 2-for-5 effort and an RBI.
• Senior third baseman Aaron Bossi finished 2-for-3.
• Freshman left-handed starting pitcher Joshua Shapiro took the loss for Marshall, surrendering three earned runs on seven hits and two walks. He struck out one.
• Senior right-handed reliever Heston Van Fleet gave up one earned run on five hits over 3.2 frames for the Thundering Herd.
• Senior left-handed relief pitcher Sam Hunter threw one inning for Marshall, allowing one hit.
• Ohio struck first in the bottom of the second inning as Rott sent a leadoff single back up the middle, advanced to second on a base hit up the middle by Gaertner and third on a single to center by sophomore right fielder Tony Giannini (Carmel, Ind.), then scored on a sacrifice fly to right by junior shortstop Tyler Finkler (Olmsted Falls, Ohio).
• The Bobcat lead swelled to 3-0 in the third. Longo was hit by a pitch to lead off the frame, then Adryan sent double to left. Longo scored the second run of the game on an RBI ground out second by Rott. Adryan gave Ohio a three-run lead when he scored on a base hit down the left field line by Gaertner.
• Ohio plated its fourth and final run in the seventh when Longo singled to left, moved third on a base hit by Adryan and then scored on a single through the right side by Gaertner.
• Marshall tallied its lone run in the bottom of the ninth when redshirt sophomore right fielder Cory Garrastazu hit a leadoff single up the middle and later scored on a two-out RBI ground out by Bird.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
• Ohio has won each of the last three meetings with Marshall.
• The Bobcats have finished with double-digit hits in eight of 12 games this season.
• Gaertner has hit safely in a team-high nine-straight games. He has recorded four multi-hit efforts and two multi-RBI games this season
• Longo recorded his fifth multi-hit game of the season.
• Adryan has notched a team-high seven multi-hit games this year -- including four straight.
• Rott posted his fourth multi-hit effort of the year.

UP NEXT
The Bobcats are scheduled to play host to their 2016 home opening series this weekend, welcoming IPFW to Bob Wren Stadium.
