• Cleveland State took a 10-6 lead into the first media break, using four points by junior forward Demonte Flannigan and treys by Edwards and Yates to build the early advantage.
• The Vikings extended their advantage to seven at 16-9 with just under 12 minutes to go in the first half, taking advantage of another three by Edwards and a triple by junior guard Myles Hamilton.
• The Bobcats answered with an 8-4 stretch to cut Cleveland State’s lead down to three at 20-17 with just over eight minutes left in the half, utilizing a dunk by Campbell off a nice feed from Setty and a slash through the lane by Simmons that resulted in an easy layup.
• The final eight minutes of the half featured plenty of action. Blount knocked down a three to push Cleveland State’s lead to six, but three straight threes by Block, Dartis and junior forward Wadly Mompremier (Miami, Fla.) allowed Ohio tie the contest at 26-all. Two layups by Yates extended the Vikings’ edge to four, but the Bobcats closed out the first half with a 10-4 run over the final four minutes to take a 36-34 lead into halftime. A jumper by Simmons cut Cleveland State’s lead to two, then a conventional three-point play by Campbell gave Ohio its first lead of the game at 31-30. A layup by Edwards briefly put Cleveland State back in front with just over two minutes left, but a triple by Dartis and a steal by Simmons that turned into a coast-to-coast layup helped Ohio secure its halftime lead.
• The Bobcats shot 51.7 percent (15-29) from the field in the first half, thanks in large part to a perfect 5-for-5 effort from Simmons and a 4-for-5 output from Campbell in the opening 20 minutes.
• Ohio carried the momentum from the end of the first half into the second half, opening the final 20 minutes of play with a 15-4 run over the first five-plus minutes. Three triples from Dartis, two layups by Campbell and a layup by Setty helped the Bobcats build their lead up to 13 at 51-38.
• The Vikings put together an 8-4 stretch over the next four minutes, utilizing a three and a layup by Hasbargen and a layup by Yates to cut Ohio’s advantage back down to nine at 55-46 with just under 11 minutes to go.
• The Bobcats quickly went back up by double digits again, though, going on a 16-12 run that featured six points by Campbell and two apiece by Simmons, Block and freshman power forward Doug Taylor (Columbus, Ohio) and built Ohio’s lead up to a game-high 17 points at 67-50 to put the contest out of reach with just under five minutes to play. Ohio’s defense helped the Bobcats maintain a double-digit lead until under 30 seconds remained in the game.

QUOTABLE
Second-year head coach Saul Phillips on the victory
"I thought we did a good job surviving a team that came out and shot the ball, really, pretty well. I thought we did a decent job of handling their pressure, and I thought we did a good job figuring out different ways to score. For awhile, you had screen-and-roll going pretty well. Jordan Dartis kind of put on a little shooting clinic for a little while, but then we settled into Tony. Tony inside was really good for us. Good win for us. It’s a good game for us to play, and we’re grateful we got a chance to play here in 'The Q.'"
Freshman guard Jordan Dartis on team’s second-half performance
"We started taking care of the ball more and started going inside to Tony and he started doing his thing down there. After he started doing his thing, we started knocking down threes, getting to the line, and, most importantly, taking care of the ball."
UP NEXT
The Bobcats open a four-game homestand to close out non-conference play next Tuesday (Dec. 15), welcoming Ohio Dominican to the Convocation Center for a 7 p.m. ET tilt. The contest will be televised on the Time Warner Cable Sports Channel.
