ATHENS, Ohio - The Ohio University women's soccer team fell 3-2 in the second overtime to Xavier at Chessa Field on Friday evening.
Xavier's Catherine Allon scored the game-winner in the 109th minute from the center of the box.
Ohio held the lead two separate times in the game. The first was when they scored off of their second corner kick opportunity, as redshirt sophomore Carly Manso swung in the ball from the right side and found the head of senior Annie Beard to put Ohio up 1-0 in the 21st minute. The goal was Beard's first in her Ohio career.
Xavier (2-3-0) responded just a minute later with a goal of its own as freshman Kenadie Carlson found space down the left side and ripped a shot off the post that landed perfectly for sophomore Tori Doss to finish off and tie the game 1-1.
The Bobcats struck first in the second half as well, when Manso gave Ohio a 2-1 lead in the 64th minute with a curling shot from the left side of the box. The goal was Manso's first of the season.
Xavier came back once again and equalized in the 82nd minute with a long shot from Doss that curled over the head of senior Nicole Amari. Despite a late barrage of Ohio corners, the game went to overtime, where Xavier eventually found the game winner.
Ohio came close in the first half on two separate corner attempts. Sophomore Sasha Haverchak put her shot just over the bar on one. Another corner late in the half resulted in a shot on goal from Beard and another shot on the deflection from senior Liz Finley. Both attempts were saved by the Musketeers' goalie.
The Bobcats finished with 16 corner kicks and 17 total shots. Junior Leah Sandercock registered six shots.
Ohio (1-4-0) returns to action Sunday, Sept. 7 when they host Eastern Kentucky at Chessa Field. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
