Ohio Women’s Soccer Falls to Miami 3-0 in Final Home Game of the Season

Athens, Ohio – The Ohio Women's Soccer Team (4-9-5, 2-5-4 MAC) played their last home game of the season against MAC rival Miami (OH) (9-5-2, 6-2-2 MAC). The Bobcats were able to create offensive chances but were unable to put any in the back of the net, falling to Miami 3-0.

Overall, Ohio outshot Miami 9-5, with Miami having four shots on goal to Ohio's three. Ohio finished the match with three corners to Miami's two.

Individually, senior Hailey Jeng (Centerville, Ohio) led the Bobcats' offense with three shots. Seniors Scout Murray (Chicago, Ill.) and Rayann Pruss (Perrysburg, Ohio) both had two shots for the Bobcats, with one shot on goal. Senior Maia Kaufman (Westerville, Ohio) and Graduate Student Quintin Tostevin (Toronto, Ontario, Canada) both had one shot, with Kaufman having a shot on goal.

Senior Celeste Sloma (Columbus, Ohio) started in net for the Bobcats and played all 90 minutes. Sloma faced 5 shots, making one save, which included stopping a penalty kick in the 28th minute.

The match started out physical, with Ohio having three free-kick opportunities within the first three minutes of play. Ohio's first chance of the match came in the second minute of play, off a free kick opportunity. Miami's keeper was able to stop Kaufman's shot, keeping the score 0-0.

Pruss had an opportunity in the 18th minute, but the Miami keeper was able to get a foot on the ball, denying the Bobcat shot. In the 29th minute, Murray placed a shot on goal, but her chance was stopped by the Redhawks keeper.

In the 30th minute, the Redhawks were able to break through the Bobcat defense, placing a shot in the bottom right corner of the net. Miami took the 1-0 lead.

Murray had another scoring opportunity in the 39th minute, but the shot missed high. Tostevin had her first opportunity of the game in the 42nd minute, but her shot also missed high.

At the half, Miami leads Ohio 1-0. Ohio finished the half with five shots compared to Miami's three, with the Bobcats having three shots on goal to the Redhawks' two. Ohio had one corner opportunity to Miami's two.

Ohio had the first opportunity of the half in the 46th minute, but Jeng's shot was off target.

In the 57th minute, Miami was able to extend its lead to 2-0 from a shot that just beat Sloma.

Jeng looked to cut the lead in half in the 70th minute, but her shot would barely miss wide. Jeng had another opportunity in the 73rd minute, but her attempt was off target.

In the 74th minute, the Redhawks extended their lead to 3-0 off a penalty kick opportunity.

The Bobcats had another opportunity in the 79th minute off a corner, but the attempt by Pruss was off target.

The Bobcats were unable to create another opportunity to end the half, and would ultimately fall to Miami 3-0 after 90 minutes of play.

The Bobcats are on the road Sunday, Oct. 26th, to face MAC opponent UMass at 12 p.m., and can be watched on ESPN+.
