Ohio – The Ohio Women's Soccer Team (4-8-5, 2-4-4 MAC) put themselves back in the win column against Northern Illinois (11-4-1, 7-3-0 MAC) in a 3-0 shutout at Chessa Field.
Quintin Tostevin and
Jaimason Brooker led the offensive efforts, both having a goal on the day.
Overall, Ohio outshot Northern Illinois 20-5, including shots on goal 11-1. The Bobcats had seven corner opportunities, while the Huskies had two.
Individually, graduate student
Quintin Tostevin (Toronto, Ontario, Canada) led the Bobcats with two goals on two shots with two shots on goal. Junior
Jaimason Brooker (Powell, Ohio) scored one goal and registered five shots with two shots on goal. Sophomore
Iro Fakinou had shots (Athens, Greece), and junior
Anna Burchett (Prestonburg, Ky.) both had three total shots with two shots on goal. Junior
Kate Robinson (Madison Heights, Mich.) had two shots with one shot on goal, and senior
Rayann Pruss (Perrysburg, Ohio) and sophomore
Lillian Weller (Xenia, Ohio) each had one shot, with that one shot being on goal.
Senior
Celeste Sloma (Columbus, Ohio) played all 90 minutes in the net for the Bobcats. Sloma faced six shots and had one save on the day.
Ohio came in hot on the offense, with Brooker putting the Bobcats up 1-0 in the ninth minute of play. Brooker's left-footed shot beat the Huskies' keeper in the top left corner of the net, giving Ohio the early lead.
Ohio's offensive pressure continued in the 23
rd minute, with Tostevin hitting a shot to the top left of the goal that beat the Huskies' keeper, giving Ohio the 2-0 lead against Northern Illinois.
In the 27
th minute,
Kate Robinson attempted a shot that was quickly saved by the Huskies' keeper. The Bobcats' next opportunity came in the 30
th minute off the foot of Weller, but was denied by the Northern Illinois defense.
Burchett attempted a shot right through the middle in the 44
th minute but was stopped by the Huskies' keeper.
In the 60
th minute, Fakinou attempted a shot that hit the left post; unfortunately, the Bobcats could not capitalize on the attack. Ohio tried to keep the offensive momentum going, but Brooker's shot attempt in the 62
nd minute was saved by Northern Illinois' keeper.
Fakinou took another stab at the net in the 63
rd minute but was shut down by the Huskies' keeper.
In the 79
th minute, Tostevin scored her second goal of the game and extended the Bobcats' lead to 3-0. Tostevin was able to find the back of the net off a corner set piece delivered by Brooker.
The Bobcats' last on-goal opportunity came in the 85
th minute off a Burchett shot that would be saved by the Huskies' keeper.
Ohio was able to maintain possession of the rest of the half, giving the Bobcats the 3-0 shutout victory.
The Bobcats will be back in action at Chessa Field on Thursday, Oct. 23
rd, where they take on MAC rival Miami University in the Battle of the Bricks at 3 p.m. The match will be available on ESPN+.
