The Bobcats sit just seven strokes shy of first-place Eastern Michigan University (298; +10)' and three strokes behind second-place Western Michigan University (302; +14).
Ohio's 305 first round combined team total is its best showing in the first round of the Cardinal Classic since 2010 when the Bobcats fired a 297 (+9) first-round effort to tie for first place.
Sophomore Hailey Hrynewich (Muskegon, Mich.) sits in a tie for second after totaling a first-round mark of 72 (E), matching her career best at Ohio. Her first-round performance marks her third time carding a 72-or-below. Hrynewich's effort also ties for the 14th-best 18-hole round score in program history.
Freshman Lily Pendy (Grosse Pointe Farms, Mich.) continues to play beyond her years following a 76 (+4) first-round mark, slotting the rookie in a tie for 13th. Monday marked the second time Pendy has tallied a 76 this fall -- the freshman's best 18-hole score.
Junior Angela Codian (Massilon, Ohio) fired a 77 (+5) in opening-round play to finish the day in a tie for 18th. The trio of Hrynewich, Pendy and Codian places the Bobcats as one of six teams in the field with three-or-more student-athletes currently in the top-20.
Senior Julie Lechner (Powell, Ohio) posted an 80 (+8) to net a share of 43rd.
Junior Lauren McKinzie (Medina, Ohio) compiled an 87 (+15) to lock her in a tie for 84th.
In the individual competition, sophomore Jessica McRae (Wadsworth, Ohio) tallied an 84 (+12), pulling her into a tie for 69th.
Final-round play is due to tee-off at 9 a.m. ET on Tuesday (Sept. 23).
