HUNTINGTON, W. Va. - The Ohio women’s swimming and diving team fell to Marshall Friday evening, 160-138.
The Bobcats started off strong, taking the first two places in the opening 200-yard medley relay. The quartet of Addison Ferguson (Westfield Center, Ohio), Tori Bagan (Roanoke, Ind.), Laura Dawson (Newcastle Upon Tyne, Eng.), and Haley Clark (College Station, Texas) took first-place, finishing with a time of 1:45.15. They were then followed by their teammates Caroline Raley (Mobile, Ala.), Liz Murphy (Western Springs, Ill.), Carrie Dukes (Monkton, MD), and Josephine Barker (Richmond, N. Yorkshire, Eng.), who took second with a time of 1:47.59.
Bianca Hauzer (Bedfordview, South Africa) performed well for the Bobcats as well, taking third-place in the 1650-yard freestyle with a time of 17:25.79. Dawson followed suit, placing first in the 200-yard freestyle in a time of 1:51.35.
The meet continued well for the Green and White, with Ferguson winning the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 56.92, followed by her teammate Raley, finishing second with a time of 58.73. Bagan then followed with another gold finish in 100- yard breaststroke, in a time of 1:03.52. Hannah Shinn (Waterloo, Ill.) took third-place in the event, finishing with a time of 1:08.64.
Elena Patz (Waunakee, Wis.) showed well for the ‘Cats as well, taking first-place in the 200-yard butterfly, with a time of 2:07.61. Clark then took third in the 50-yard freestyle, finishing strong with a time 24.35, and third-place in the 100-yard freestyle, with a time of 53.05. Katie Lemen (Carmel, Ind.) took third in the event, finishing with a time of 54.64.
As the meet continued to the diving competition, Karrisa Conner (Granite Bay, Calif.) earned second-place in the three-meter diving event, finishing with a score of 187.72. She then took second in the one-meter diving as well, with a score of 215.55.
Ferguson scored well for the ‘Cats again, finishing first in the 200-yard backstroke. She took the gold spot with a time of 2:05.02. She was followed by Raley, who finished in 2:06.51.
As the meet came to a close, Bagan earned second-place in the 200-yard breaststroke, with a time of 2:23.13. Hauzer followed in her footsteps, taking second in the 500-yard freestyle in 5:06.32.
The Bobcats took the top three spots in the 100-yard butterfly, with Ferguson finishing first in 58.16, Patz in second-place with a time of 58.67, and Dukes in third-place with a time of 58.78.
Dawson finished strong in her last individual event of the night, taking first-place in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:06.09.
Finally, the ‘Cats took the second and third places in the closing 200 yard freestyle relay. The team of Lemen, Clark, Hauzer, and Bagan finished second in the event with a time of 1:37.37. They were followed by their teammates Erika Poling (Delaware, Ohio), Shinn, Dukes, and Murphy. They finished with a time of 1:40.58.
The Bobcats take to the road next weekend to Virginia Tech to compete in the H20kie Invitational.
