YORKTOWN, Ind. â€" Ohio Women’s Golf completed the first day of competition at the 2012 Cardinal Classic on Saturday afternoon, ending the day in eighth place with a team score of 328.
Host Ball State shot the top team score on the first day of the tournament, combining to shoot a 309 through the first 18 holes. Marshall is not far behind, having shot a 310 to hold second place.
On a chilly and very windy day at The Players Club Golf Course, Ohio’s Angela Codian (Massilon, Ohio) led the way with a one-round score of 79. The freshman shot a 39 on the front nine before adding one stroke during the back nine. Coadian is currently tied for 15th place with one round remaining to play.
Kara Brinkmann (Middletown, Ohio), Kristen Helmsdoerfer (Westerville, Ohio) and Lauren McKinzie (Medina, Ohio) finished very close to one another, ending the day in 32nd, 33rd and 38th, respectively. Brinkmann shot 39-43 to end with an 82; Helmsdoerfer carded 41-42 to conclude with an 83 and McKinzie went 41-43 to end the first day with an 84.
Ohio’s fifth finisher of the day was Julie Lechner (Powell, Ohio), who ended with a score of 89. Lechner shot a 44 in the first round and a 45 in the second to end the day tied for 65th.
