YORKTOWN, Ind. â€" Ohio Women’s Golf finished competition at the 2012 Cardinal Classic on Sunday, ending the tournament tied for eighth place with a two-round team score of 655. The Bobcats dropped one stroke on the final day of the tournament and tied with Western Illinois University.
Host Ball State University earned the top spot at the tournament, shooting a 302 on the final day to end with a score of 611. Western Michigan University was not far behind, taking second place with a 619.
Angela Codian (Massilon, Ohio) finished first on Ohio’s squad for the second straight tournament. The freshman dropped six strokes from her first-round score of 79 to shoot a 73 on the final day. Codian’s score of 152 tied her for third in the field of 74 golfers.
Finishing second for the Bobcats was Kristen Helmsdoerfer (Westerville, Ohio). The junior cut four strokes off her first-round 83 to end the tournament with a final score of 162. Helmsdoerfer tied for 28th.
Kara Brinkmann (Middletown, Ohio) and Lauren McKinzie (Medina, Ohio) were the next two finishers for Ohio, tying for 53rd and 55th, respectively. Brinkmann shot 82-89 to end with a 171 while McKinzie went 84-88 to end with a 172.
Julie Lechner (Powell, Ohio) was Ohio’s next finisher at the tournament, tying for 63rd with a two-round score of 176. Lechner dropped two strokes off her first-round 89 on Sunday.
The Bobcats will next be in action on Sept. 28 and 29 when they compete at the 2012 Nittany Lion Invitational in University Park, Pa.
