RICHMOND, Ky. â€" Ohio Women’s Golf finished the first day of competition at the 2012 Lady Colonel Classic on Friday. The Bobcats are currently tied for seventh place through two rounds of play.
Ohio shot 319 as a team in the first round before dropping seven strokes in the second round to shoot a 312. The Bobcats have shot 631 through the first 36 holes of play.
Akron currently sits in first place, shooting scores of 314 and 303 to end the day with a team score of 617. Toledo is not far behind, holding down second place with a 619.
Kara Brinkmann (Middletown, Ohio) and Megan Weaver (Canton, Ohio) led the way for the Bobcats, finishing the day tied for 12th in the field of 75 golfers. Brinkmann shot two steady scores of 78 and 77 while Weaver shot a 75 in the first round and carded an 80 in the second.
Finishing the day third for Ohio and tied for 24th overall was Kristen Helmsdoerfer (Westerville, Ohio). The sophomore shot scores of 81 and 76, finishing with a two-round score of 157.
Sarah Tranelli (Penfield, N.Y.) and Julie Lechner (Powell, Ohio) rounded out the day for the Bobcats, ending tied for 48th and 56th, respectively. Tranelli shot scores of 85 and 79 while Lechner shot 86 and 81.
The Bobcats will begin the second day of competition on Saturday at 8:30 a.m.
