CRYSTAL RIVER, Fla. â€" Ohio Women’s Golf finished the third and final day of competition at the 2012 University of Cincinnati Spring Invitational on Sunday. For the second straight day, the Bobcats improved their standing in the 19-team field, ending the day in 12th place with a total team score of 949.
Florida International claimed top honors at the tournament, shooting a third-round 294 and ending the competition with a score of 878. FIU also claimed the top individual honors in the field of 104 golfers, as Shelby Coyle placed first with a three-round score of 213. Stetson University placed second, shooting a score of 902 through the three rounds.
Ohio’s score of 949 is its second best three-round score of the 2012 spring season. The 12th-place finish also marks the second-best result Ohio has earned to this point in the season.
Kara Brinkmann (Middletown, Ohio) shot Ohio’s best score of the day on Sunday, shooting a one-over-par 73. She finished second for Ohio and tied for 18th overall with a final score of 229. The top-20 finish was the third of her career.
Also finishing in the top 20 for Ohio was Megan Weaver (Canton, Ohio). The senior shot a 76 on the final day of competition and ended up with a 228, tying for 13th overall. This is Weaver’s 17th top-20 finish of her impressive Bobcat career.
Kristen Helmsdoerfer (Westerville, Ohio) placed next for the Bobcats, shooting a three-round score of 241. Helmsdoerfer shot an 81 on the final day and finished tied for 58th.
Meryl Weaver (Canton, Ohio) and Julie Lechner (Powell, Ohio) rounded out Ohio’s competition in the tournament, each shooting scores of 86 on Sunday. These two Bobcats finished 85th and 104th, respectively.
The Bobcats will next be in action on April 1 and 2 when they play in the 2012 Spring Challenge Cup.
