CRYSTAL RIVER, Fla. â€" Ohio Women’s Golf completed the second day of competition at the 2012 University of Cincinnati Spring Invitational on Saturday. The Bobcats shot a team score of 315 on the second day and through two rounds of play currently sit in 13th place with a total score of 633.
Florida International retains the team lead after the first two days of play, shooting a second-round 294 to currently have accumulated a team score of 584. Stetson University remains in second place with a total score of 605. The Hatters shot a 306 on Saturday.
The theme of Saturday’s round was improvement, as two Bobcats shot better scores on the second day of competition than the first. Megan Weaver (Canton, Ohio) and Kara Brinkmann each improved their outings on Saturday. Weaver dropped two strokes from a 77 to a 75 while Brinkmann (Middletown, Ohio) also dropped two, going from 79 to 77. The two Bobcats are currently in 18th and 32nd place, respectively.
Kristen Helmsdoerfer (Westerville, Ohio) finished third for Ohio on Saturday, shooting an 80. The sophomore matched her score from the first round and is currently tied for 51st place with a score of 160.
Julie Lechner (Powell, Ohio) and Meryl Weaver (Canton, Ohio) rounded out Ohio’s participation on Saturday, shooting scores of 83 and 86, respectively. Weaver is currently in 82nd place while Lechner sits 104th.
The Bobcats will begin the third and final day of competition at the UC Spring Invitational on Sunday at 8:30 a.m. EST.
