CRYSTAL RIVER, Fla. - Ohio Women's Golf finished the first day of competition at the 2012 University of Cincinnati Spring Invitational on Friday. Through the first round of competition, Ohio currently sits in 16th place with a team score of 318.
Florida International holds the top spot, shooting a first-round score of 290. FIU also boasted the top golfer of the day, as Shelby Coyle carded a three-under-par score of 69. In second place after the first day is Stetson University, having accumulated a team score of 299.
Megan Weaver (Canton, Ohio) shot Ohio's best score of the day, finishing with a five-over-par 77. The senior is currently tied for 27th place in the field of 103.
Kara Brinkmann (Middletown, Ohio) and Kristen Helmsdoerfer (Westerville, Ohio) were Ohio's next two finishers, ending the day tied for 46th and 58th, respectively. Brinkmann shot a seven-over-par 79 and Helmsdoerfer carded an eight-over-par 80.
Rounding out Ohio's first day in the tournament, Meryl Weaver (Canton, Ohio) shot a ten-over-par 82. She is currently tied for 69th place.
The Bobcats will begin the second day of competition at the Cincinnati Spring Invitational on Saturday at 8:30 a.m. All golfers will begin with a shotgun start.
