ATHENS, Ohio - Following a 63-53 win over San Francisco on Sunday, Ohio Women's Basketball will close out a three-game homestand on Tuesday night when the Niagara Purple Eagles come to town. Tipping off at 7 p.m., the game will be streamed live on OhioBobcats.com and can be heard on WOUB-AM 1340 with Grant Burkhardt calling the action.
LAST TIME OUT
Ohio picked up a 63-53 win over San Francisco on Dec. 11 to improve to 4-5 on the season. Four Bobcats scored in double figures and Ohio held a +13 rebounding margin over the Dons. The Green and White shot 17-of-21 from the free-throw line and scored 18 second-chance points.
SCOUTING THE PURPLE EAGLES
Niagara comes to Athens the owner of a 3-6 record. The Purple Eagles have picked up wins in two of their last three contests, beating Colgate (61-60) and Binghamton (64-53) while dropÂping a contest to Albany (55-42). Niagara had a difficult start to the 2011-12 season, losing its first four contests.
Led in scoring by Lauren Gatto's 10.3 points per game, the Purple Eagles have connected on 34.2 percent of their field goals this season while allowing opponents to shoot 42.2 percent. Niagara has had success from the line during 2011-12, connecting on 91-of-120 free throws to shoot 75.8 percent.
OHIO - NIAGARA SERIES HISTORY
Ohio and Niagara have never played before in program history. Tuesday's game will be the first meeting between the two schools.
VEGAS BOUND
Following Tuesday's game against Niagara, Ohio Women's BasÂketball will head west to play in the 2011 Duel in the Desert in Las Vegas, Nevada. The Bobcats will face off against three quality opponents during the tournament, playing Oklahoma (Dec. 18), Xavier (Dec. 19) and Syracuse (Dec. 20). All games will be played in Cox Pavilion.
FIRST HALF IS KEY
All four of Ohio's wins have come in games where it has held the lead at halftime. The Bobcats are 0-4 during games in which they trail after the first 20 minutes.
NATIONAL RANKINGS
Of 336 Division One NCAA programs, Ohio ranks among the top 96 in the following four statistical categories: Fewest Personal Fouls Per Game (14.9...51st), Steals Per Game (10.7...86th), Three-Point Field Goal Percentage (32.3...93rd) and Scoring Defense (57.7...96th).
BALANCED ATTACK
Ohio had four players score in double figures during Sunday's 63-53 win over San Francisco. Tenishia Benson and Shavon Robinson led the way for the Green and White, scoring 15 points apiece while Alesia Howard (13) and Ashley Fowler (11) were not far behind.
SIGNIFICANT MARGIN
The Bobcats dominated the boards on Sunday, out-rebounding the Dons by 13. Ohio claimed 46 total rebounds to San FranÂcisco's 33. The Bobcats picked up 21 offensive rebounds, with Alesia Howard grabbing a game-high of four.
PUT-BACK BASKETS
Largely due to Ohio's impressive offensive rebounding total, the Bobcats scored 18 second-chance points against the Dons on Sunday.
