MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ohio University women's golf team opened the Cardinal Classic with a 297, tying them for first place alongside Western Michigan University.
Megan Weaver (Canton, Ohio), Sarah Tranelli (Pennfield, New York), and Kara Brinkmann (Middletown, Ohio) all fired a 74 on the 72-par course for the round, tying each of them for 9th in the individual standings. Meryl Weaver (Canton, Ohio) contributed to the team's lead by tallying a 77, and grabbed the 18th spot overall.
Two MAC teams, Ohio and Western Michigan, stand at the top of the team leaderboard with a 297. Also breaking 300 is Southern Illinois with a 299. Close behind in third place is California (Pa.) tallying a 300. Two other teams making the top six were IUPUI with a 306 and Eastern Kentucky with a 307.
The remainder of the board has Ball State (308), Ashland (309), Youngstown State (310), Bowling Green (311), Oakland (314), Northern Illinois (315), Indiana (321) and Dayton (326) in that order.
Beginning with holes 1-3, the Bobcats will be paired up in the final rounds with Western Michigan and Southern Illinois on the 6,258-yard course. They will try to hold on to their lead as the tournament finishes up Tuesday with a 9 a.m. start at The Players Club.
