BATAVIA, Ohio - Saving its best showing for the event's final round, Ohio women's golf fired a final-round 303 as it wrapped up the UC Fall Classic in ninth place with a 947 (321-323-303) at the Elks Run Golf Course.
Ohio's plus-15 303 over the final 18 holes was the fifth-best final-round score of the 16 teams in the field. Four Bobcat golfers recorded their lowest rounds of the event in the third round.
Two `Cats finished in the top 30 in the individual leaders, with senior Jordan Fesh (Toledo, Ohio) finishing tied for 22nd with a 234 (78-80-76). She was just two strokes off the top 20. Sophomore Sarah Tranelli (Penfield, N.Y.) was right behind at 235 (80-80-75), tying her for 27th overall.
Kara Brinkmann (Middletown, Ohio) finished with a 239 (82-82-75), tying her for 42nd overall. Her 75 over the last 18 holes tied Tranelli for the best final-round score on the team. Megan Weaver (Canton, Ohio) was just behind Brinkmann with a 240 (81-82-77), while sister Meryl Weaver (Canton, Ohio) finished with a 247 (82-81-84). Kristen Helmsdoerfer (Westerville, Ohio) competed individually and finished with a 280 (91-98-91).
Florida International won the team title with an 889 (307-295-287). Mid-American Conference member Toledo finished 11 strokes back in second place at 900, while one group of host Cinicnnati came in third at 913. Penn State finished fourth with a 915, while Memphis rounded out the top five at 932. Murray State (937) came in sixth and was followed by Morehead State (939), Southern Mississippi (944), Ohio and Akron (950) to conclude the top 10 teams.
Cincinnati's Bambee Dela Paz took home the individual title with a one-over 217. She was followed by FIU's Cristina Marin three strokes back at 220. Toledo's Natasha Gobey was third at 221, while PSU's Gia Fanelli (223) was fourth and Austin Peay's Chelsea Harris (224) was fifth.
The Green and White will return to the course next Monday and Tuesday as it heads to Yorktown, Ind., to take part in the Ball State-hosted Cardinal Classic.
