Final Stats

DAYTON, Ohio-Ohio got two homers from center fielder Gauntlett Eldemire and a stellar relief effort from Rex Ingham to take down Dayton 6-3 Tuesday evening at TWC Stadium.

Ohio improved to 14-29 overall, while Dayton dropped to 19-26.

Eldemire finished with two runs and three RBIs, while first baseman Tyler Backstrom went 3-for-4 at the dish.

Dayton received a two-run homer by center fielder Zach Blanchette and a 2-for-4 effort by shortstop Cole Tyrell.

Bobcat starter Michael Dillon (3-3) was credited with the win as Ohio used four pitchers during the contest. He tossed two innings and allowed one run on two hits with one walk. After reliever Mike Sweigert recorded one out, Rex Ingham finished the game in grand fashion, limiting the Flyers to just two hits with four strikeouts in four innings of work to get his second save.

Dayton reliever Chris Beesley (2-3) took the loss, allowing four runs on four hits with one strikeout and no walks in two innings.

Ohio struck the game’s big blow in the third inning when it scored four times. Right fielder Jerod Yakubik plated shortstop Wesley O’Neill and second baseman Zach Keen with a double to left center and Eldemire followed with a two-run blast to left.

After Dayton retaliated with two runs in the fifth, Ohio tallied its last two runs with one each in the eighth and ninth innings. Eldemire accounted for the first of those two scores with a solo blast to left on the first pitch he saw. Keen’s single to center in the ninth scored Adam Gecewich with the game’s final run.

Yakubik now has 17 doubles, while Eldemire boasts 10 round-trippers.

Ohio will travel to Eastern Kentucky Wednesday for a 4 p.m. start.
