Athens, Ohio - Two Ohio men's golfers shot under-par during the third round of the 2010 MAC Championship this afternoon at Longaberger Golf Club in Nashport, Ohio. The team remains in fifth place but gained ground on their two closest competitors.
Chad Warmbein (McMurray, Pa.) regained his form from early yesterday after registering seven birdies and shooting a blistering round of 69. He improved nine strokes from yesterday's second round while teammate Tim Gusweiler (Loveland, Ohio) chopped seven strokes off his second-round total. Gusweiler also finished under par for the Bobcats as he had five birdies and recorded a second-round 71.
Paul Grauer (Dublin, Ohio) also had a nice third round for Ohio, racking up three birdies and improving on his first two rounds of action. Chuck Nettles (McMurray, Pa.) is in fourth place for the `Cats at +13 through three rounds and Stewart Jamieson (Worthington, Ohio) sits at +20.
After the third round, Ohio remains in fifth place but gained ground on the two teams in front of them in the team standings. They're only two shots behind Miami and five shots behind Akron heading into the final round tomorrow. Kent State, the only team that is under par, widened their lead to 16 strokes over Eastern Michigan.
Brett Cairns of Kent State, the No. 79-ranked golfer in the nation, continues to lead with a two-stroke advantage over teammate Mackenzie Hughes. Cam Burke of Eastern Michigan and John Hahn of KSU each moved into a tied for third at even par. EMU's Marty Jeppesen dropped into a tie for fifth with Jerel Whiting of Toledo.
