Athens, Ohio - The Ohio University men's golf team held off a late charge and earned a fifth-place finish at the 2010 MAC Championship this afternoon from Longaberger Golf Club in Nashport, Ohio.
Chad Warmbein (McMurray, Pa.) had his worst round of the tournament but still finished 15th overall. Tim Gusweiler (Loveland, Ohio) and Paul Grauer (Dublin, Ohio) each had three birdies and finished with the top Ohio scores during the final round. Grauer was even par through the first nine holes and Gusweiler was a +1 on the back stretch as both golfers finished +3 for the day.
Chuck Nettles (McMurray, Pa.) has his second-best finish of the tournament during the final round and ended in fourth for the `Cats at +18. Stewart Jamieson (Worthington, Ohio) had his best round of the tournament and finished at +25 over all four rounds.
Ohio finished in fifth place and held off a late charge by Northern Illinois to keep the top five intact. Kent State was the only team to finish under par for the tournament as they won the team title. Eastern Michigan, Akron and Miami finished second, third and fourth respectively.
John Hahn of Kent State made up a four-stroke deficit to catch teammate Brett Cairns. The two KSU golfers finished as co-champions of the event with identical three-under scores. Another Golden Flash golfer, MacKenzie Hughes, finished third at -2 with Eastern Michigan's Cam Burke closing the event at -1. Northern Illinois' Jeff Dick rounded out the top five individual scores at +4.
