Nittany Lion Invitational Results ![]()
STATE COLLEGE, Pa. - Megan Weaver and Jordan Fesh each fired a final-round 78 as Ohio women's golf finished 11th with a 941 to wrap up play at the Penn State-hosted Nittany Lion Invitational Sunday.
Less than ideal conditions at the 6,231-yard Penn State Blue Course made it challenging on the field as no team was able to break 300 for the final round. Ohio finished Sunday's third round with a 318 and was just five strokes out of a top-eight finish. Weaver's (Canton, Ohio) final-round 78 put her in the top 20 for the event, tying for 16th overall with a plus-13 229 (76-75-78), just two strokes off the top 10.
Weaver's twin sister Meryl Weaver (Canton, Ohio) finished with an 80 on the day and came in tied for 41st at 236 (76-80-80). Fesh's (Toledo, Ohio) 78 for the round put her right behind Meryl with a 237 (80-79-78). Sarah Tranelli (Penfield, N.Y.) tallied an 82 on the final round to come in at 239 (83-74-82), while Kristen Helmsdoerfer finished the event at 258 (86-85-87).
Host Penn State came in first on the event by virtue of its day-low 301 to finish with a plus-37 901. Mid-American Conference foe Western Michigan came in second, nine strokes back at 910. Rollins College finished third at 912, while William & Mary and Harvard tied for fourth at 913 to round out the top five.
Yale (914) came in sixth, followed by Longwood (933), College of Charleston, Akron (936) and Bucknell (937). The `Cats were right on the heels of that group, with Columbia (942) and Lehigh (944) behind them. Rounding out the board were Ball State (947), Richmond (951), Rutgers (961) and Monmouth (998).
The `Cats will enjoy a week off before returning to action next Monday at the Zippy Invitational in Fairlawn, Ohio.
