PINEHURST, N.C. - The Ohio University men's golf team was trailing Campbell, +7-+13, on Friday when the head-to-head match between the two schools was halted due to severe weather.
Tornado warnings and rain in excess of two inches forced the match to be cut short with players at different points in their rounds. Both teams' top-five scores were used to determine the winner of the match.
Senior James Ellis (McMurray, Pa.) and junior Chad Warmbein (McMurray, Pa.) were leading the Bobcats at the time of the stoppage, both standing at +2 through 16 holes.
Junior Stewart Jamieson (Worthington, Ohio) was pulled off the course at +3 after 15 holes, while freshmen Paul Grauer (Dublin, Ohio) and John Mlynarski (St. Michaels, Md.) were both three over par through 13 and 14 holes, respectively. Sophomore Chuck Nettles (McMurray, Pa.) was +4 through 15 holes on the day, and junior Tim Gusweiler (Loveland, Ohio) rounded out the Ohio lineup with a mark +7 through 14 holes.
The Bobcats will return to tournament play next weekend when they make the short trip to Huntington, W.Va., for the Marshall Invitational. The 54-hole event will be held from April 3-4 at Guyan Golf and Country Club.
