HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Junior Chad Warmbein and sophomore Chuck Nettles both carded 36-hole totals of 147 (+5) on Friday to lead the Ohio University men's golf team to an eighth-place standing with a team score of 595 (+17) after two rounds of the Marshall Invitational.
Nettles (McMurray, Pa.) recorded an even-par and career-best 71 in Friday's opening round before wrapping up the day with a second-round 76 to tie for 16th place after the first day of play. His five-over 147 also broke Nettles' career-best 36-hole score by three strokes.
Also a native of McMurray, Pa., Warmbein opened the day with four-over 75 before finishing up with a 72 (+1) in the afternoon to join Nettles in a tie for 16th with a total of 147 (+5). Senior James Ellis (McMurray, Pa.) also opened with a 75 (+4) on Friday before shooting a season-best 73 in the afternoon session to finish with day in a tie for 26th place with a six-over 148, while junior Stewart Jamieson (Worthington, Ohio) signed his card with a 153 (+11) on day one to take a share of 51st place.
Freshman John Mlynarski (St. Michaels, Md.) rounded out the Ohio lineup with a first-day 162 (+20), good for a 78th-place tie.
The third and final round of the 40th annual Marshall Invitational is scheduled to begin with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. ET on Saturday.
