Box Score

ATHENS, Ohio - Senior John Angelicchi (Woodmere, Ohio) allowed five runs on eight hits in the right-hander's first start since his sophomore season, but the Bobcat offense could not get things going against the Thundering Herd and Marshall defeated Ohio 10-3 on Tuesday night at Bob Wren Stadium.

Marshall improves to 23-21-1 on the season while the Bobcats fall to 20-23 in 2008.

Marshall's Shane Farrell earned the win and improved his record to 1-1 by going 6.2 innings, allowing just two runs on six hits with four strike outs and two base on balls. Angelicchi, who struck out three and walked just one batter in 6.1 innings pitched, was saddled with the loss which dropped his record to 0-2 on the season. Marshall's Ryan Kiel and Adam Dobies combined to pitch 2.1 innings of one run baseball to preserve the win for Farrell.

Heading into the top of the seventh inning, Marshall clung to just a one-run lead with the score at 3-2 but the Thundering Herd sent seven batters to the plate in the inning and drove in three runs on three hits, chasing Angelicchi and reliever Adam Goodpasture (Columbus, Ohio) before Matt Schlarb (Lexington, Ohio) earned the final out of the inning.

Victor Gomez added another run to Marshall's total with a solo home run in the top of the eighth inning, his ninth in 2008. The Thundering Herd posted another three run inning in the top of the ninth inning, only one earned, to push their score up to 10 runs.

The Bobcats attempted a rally with one out in the bottom of eighth as sophomore Marc Krauss (Deshler, Ohio) doubled and junior Brandon Besl (Cincinnati, Ohio) doubled home Krauss, but the Thundering Herd retired the next two batters to prevent any additional runs from crossing the plate.

The Bobcats finished the game with three runs on eight hits with one error while the Thundering Herd compiled 10 runs on 12 hits with two errors. For the game, Ohio left eight runners on base, compared to Marshall's four.

Zach Keen (Beavercreek, Ohio) went 2-for-3 for Ohio and six other Bobcats tallied hits in the contest. Marshall first baseman Josh Valle put together two hits in five at-bats with three RBI and centerfielder Nate Lape had three hits with two runs scored and two RBI.

When Ohio and Marshall met at Bob Wren Stadium on April 23, the Bobcats surrendered 17 runs on 22 hits - both season-highs this year.

The Bobcats will play tomorrow night, April 30, against Duquesne in the second-to-last non-conference home game of the season. Ohio will host Bowling Green this weekend in a Mid-American Conference showdown.
