RIO VERDE, Ariz. - The Ohio women's golf squad opened its spring season with 18 holes Friday at the Rio Verde Collegiate Invitational, hosted by Western Michigan.
Playing the par-72, 6,277-yard Quail Run Course at the Rio Verde Country Club, the Bobcat women turned in a plus-29, 317 in the tournament's first round. That score will take them into Saturday's second round tied for 16th place among 18 teams.
Meredith Waterston (Bloomington, Minn.) paced the six Ohio golfers with a five-over 77 in her first round of the spring, which has her tied for 37th among the 107 in the field. Kristen Mautz (Upper Arlington, Ohio) finished one stroke behind Waterston in a tie for 44th.
Rounding out Ohio's scorecard was Lindsay Bergman's (Blacklick, Ohio) 80, which has her tied for 70th, and Shanna Siefke's (Toledo, Ohio) 82 has her tied for 86th.
Competing as individuals, Katie Stafford (Phoenix, Ariz.) shot an 85 and is in 98th place while Colleen Lienesch (Centerville, Ohio) is tied for 103rd with an 87.
Baylor's Allison Martin and Arkansas-Little Rock's Anita Ojeda are tied for the first round lead at three-under. Baylor will also take the team lead into Saturday.
Round two will commence at 8 a.m. (MT) Saturday with a shotgun start.
