COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The Ohio women's soccer team recorded 10 shots but the Bobcats were unable to find the back of the net in a 4-0 loss to Weber State at the Colorado College Invitational Sunday at Stewart Field.
"It was a pretty even game except we made four mistakes and they capitalized on every one of them," Head Coach Stacy Strauss said.
The Bobcats held an advantage in shots in the first half, tallying seven shots to Weber State's six. While Ohio was unable to convert its scoring opportunities into points, Weber State's Linsey McFarland made the most of her chances, scoring in the 31st minute and the 45th minute to give the Wildcats a 2-0 lead at halftime. McFarland added her third goal of the contest in the 57th minute and Natalie Ellis added a goal in the 61st minute to finish the scoring at 4-0.
The Bobcats recorded three shots on goal in the match while the Wildcats finished with 10. Weber State posted a 14-10 advantage in total shots after an 8-3 edge in the second half.
Freshman Dominique Wright (Durango, Colo.) started in goal for the Bobcats, allowing all four goals and making two saves. Freshman Jess MacLean (Loveland, Ohio) played the final 29:46 in net and made four saves without allowing a goal. Senior Tiffany Horvath (Strongsville, Ohio) finished with three total shots on the day, but none were on goal.
"Our forwards played better today than they did on Friday night," Strauss said. "Erika Schmitt (Wyoming, Ohio) and Tiffany Horvath played well. Callie Broomfield (Bay Village, Ohio) also played well and Courtney Mink (Mason, Ohio) played today and played well."
Ohio finished play at the Colorado Invitational winless in two matches and fell to 2-5-0 on the season. The Bobcats are now 0-4-0 this season when on the road. Weber State moved to 4-2-2 on the season with the win.
The Bobcats look to turn things around Friday when they travel to Mt. Pleasant, Mich. for the Mid-American Conference opener against Central Michigan. The match is set to begin at 3:00 p.m. ET.
