Final Stats NCAA Championship Event Information
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - For the second consecutive year, Scott Mayle dominated the field, capturing the 2006 Mideast Regional Long Jump title and a spot at the NCAA Championships in two weeks, improving his championship qualifying record to 3-0.
"We were real happy with his performance," said Head Coach Clay Calkins. "He did a great job because he didn't even need to take his third jump in the final round."

After a winning jump of 25-06.75 against 31 other athletes from schools like LSU and
Mayle's jump was tied for fourth-best in the country during the weekend. At the Midwest Regional, Texas A&M's Fabrice Lapierre had the top jump in the country at 26-05.75 with Baylor's Chris Gillis close behind at 26-04.50. UCLA's Joel Tuosto won the West Regional at 25-06.75, while
In 2003, Mayle finished fourth and qualified for an automatic bid at the Mideast Regional with a jump of 25-10. After redshirting in 2004, he won his first title at 26-00 in 2005, second-best mark in school history. Now, he will focus on improving upon his best finish at the NCAA Championships, 14th place (24-11.25) in 2003.
"He's proven himself to be a game day competitor," Calkins said. "He's been in this situation before and was relaxed and confident coming into the event today against tough competition."

During her final year in
Junior Chelsea Stephan (Brookville) finished second in her flight of the javelin and tenth overall with a throw of 141-04 on Friday.
On the track in the 400m hurdles, sophomore Jessica Kestler (Maineville) finished fourth in her heat and 19th overall at 1:01.45.
The last Bobcat to compete Saturday evening, junior Brian King (Richfield, Minn.) finished seventh in his flight and 19th overall in the 3,000m steeplechase at 9:13.38.
"I was real happy with all of their hard work and preparation," Calkins said. "Chelsea and Jessica had their second-best career performances."
"To come to the regional and compete at that level, it's not only a great experience but also a great accomplishment," Calkins explained.
In team results, LSU captured both titles with 95.50 points on the women's side and 71 points in the men's section. Officially, with help from Mayle's 10 points, the Ohio men tied with Ohio State and Louisiana Tech for 28th out of 46 schools that scored points in the regional. Cincinnati finished with nine points, while Miami had one.
The season is not finished though as Mayle will be representing Ohio at the NCAA Championships in Sacramento. The qualifying round for the men's long jump is scheduled for Wednesday, June 7, at 10:15 p.m. Eastern Time with the finals set for Thursday, June 8, at 9:30 p.m. Eastern Time.
