RICHMOND, Ky. - After the first 18 holes of the EKU Spring Invitational at the Arlington Golf Club, the Ohio women's golf team sits in eighth place out of 14 teams heading into Friday's second round.
Bobcat junior Meredith Waterston (Bloomington, Minn.) led the squad with a 79 on Thursday, tying her for 18th out of 86 individual competitors. Two strokes back in a tie for 32nd are Ohio seniors Ana Brown (West Chester, Ohio) and Julie Tomlinson (Noblesville, Ind.) and junior Shanna Siefke (Toledo, Ohio). Bobcat junior Kristen Mautz (Upper Arlington, Ohio) is tied for 68th after shooting an opening-round 86.
Toledo leads the tournament with a team score of 299 while second-place Tennessee Tech is 13 strokes back at 312. Eastern Michigan (315), event host Eastern Kentucky (316), Oakland (316), Austin Peay State (319) and Ball State (320) are also ahead of Ohio, which posted a team score of 322.
The day's best round was an even-par 72 by Toledo's Kim Kester. Two strokes behind her in second place is her teammate, Tammy Clelland.
Both Friday's second round and Saturday's final 18 holes will begin with 9 a.m. shotgun starts.
