BATAVIA, Ohio - The Ohio women's golf squad finished its fall schedule in a three-way tie for fifth place at the Cincinnati Fall Classic.
Playing at the Elks Run Golf Club in Batavia, the Bobcat women's squad compiled a score of 328 through the first 18 holes, 25 strokes behind tournament leader - and host - Cincinnati. Tuesday's final round was cancelled due to persistent rain, which made the first round results final.
Shanna Siefke (Toledo, Ohio) paced the Bobcat effort on the first day of the tournament with a five-over 77, which has her in a four-way tie for fifth place among the 53 individuals that are competing for the title.
"She shot a 77, and that was great, because we are not used to playing on these greens because they are really big and fast, which results in some long puts," Ohio Assistant Coach Jeff Hetler said. "Shanna's been hitting the ball really well, and if she puts well she's going to score well, and she did that today."
Meredith Waterston (Bloomington, Minn.) turned in an 83, good enough for sole possession of 22nd place. She is followed by Kristen Mautz (Upper Arlington, Ohio) and Katie Stafford (Phoenix, Ariz.), who both shot an 84 to tie for 23rd. Megan Curran (Dublin, Ohio) filled out Ohio's card with a 92, which has her sitting in 47th with 18 holes left.
Ohio freshman Colleen Lienesch (Centerville, Ohio) made her collegiate debut as she competed as an individual, and shot an 82, which has her tied for 18th.
Despite the 25-stroke difference between tournament leader Cincinnati and Ohio, the Bobcats finished just five strokes behind third-place Southern Mississippi at 323.
Cincinnati's Hillery Wilson won the individual title with a minus-1 71.
The event was the last for the Bobcat women this fall.
