INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – In its first match of the Indy Invite, the Ohio volleyball team (4-1, 0-0 MAC) defeated Youngstown State (2-3, 0-0 Horizon) 3-1 (25-21, 25-22, 21-25, 25-12) on Friday, Sept. 4.

Ohio finished 60 kills, eight aces, 12 blocks, 57 assists and 72 digs. Youngstown State finished with 44 kills, five aces, six blocks, 37 assists and 57 digs. The Bobcats recorded a .283 team hitting percentage and held the Penguins to a .177 percentage.

Senior Torre Kildow (Bethesda, Ohio) was a major offensive force for Ohio. Kildow recorded a .500 attack percentage with a team-high 19 kills and two errors on 34 total attacks. She also led the team in aces (3) and points (23.5). Sophomore Bailey Blair (Louisville, Ky.) tallied 12 kills and 14 points for the Bobcats.

Freshman Rowan Kelly (Akron, Ohio) distributed a team-high 39 assists while also recording a .667 attack percentage (6-0-9). Kelly, Rose Mahin (Franklin, Ind.) and senior Olivia Gardner (Macomb, Mich.) all contributed to Ohio's offense, tallying six kills each.

Defensively, sophomore Lacy Marx (Evansville, Ind.) led the team in digs with 20 total. Four Bobcats, including Marx, recorded double-digit digs --Blair tallied 12, Kelly recorded 11 and Mahin finished with 10 digs.

Sophomore Cienna Lapsley (Columbia City, Ind.), Gardner, Kelly and senior Emily Waddell (Carmel, Ind.) led Ohio at the net. Waddell recorded two solo blocks in addition to one block assist. Lapsley, Gardner and Kelly tallied a team-high four blocks each.

The Bobcats earned an early 1-0 lead after taking the first set in a 25-21 decision. Ohio had the momentum early on, recording several small scoring runs in the beginning of the set. The Bobcats were leading 14-7 when Youngstown State began closing in on them. At the halfway point, Ohio only led Youngstown State 15-12. The Penguins were on the Bobcats heels coming within two points of Ohio's lead. Ohio was able to contain the late efforts of Youngstown State's offense and reach set point with a 24-21 lead. A kill by Blair secured the set, 25-21.

It was close at the start of the second set with the two teams trading points back-and-forth. With the set tied at 13-13, Ohio took a small 15-13 with back-to-back points just before the halfway mark. The Bobcats began to pull away slightly from Youngstown State, taking a 19-15 lead. However, the Penguins were not letting up and eventually tied the set at 21-21. Ohio responded with three points in a row, forcing set point. A kill by Kildow won the set for Ohio, 25-22, and gave the Bobcats the 2-0 advantage over Youngstown State.

After earning a 25-21 win in the third, Youngstown State cut Ohio's lead to 2-1 and forced a fourth set.

The Bobcats dominated most of their fourth set against the Penguins. Ohio recorded a .538 hitting percentage while also holding Youngstown State to a .054 percentage. Halfway through, Ohio held a 15-7 lead over Youngstown State. The Bobcats sailed through the remainder of the fourth set, eventually winning 25-12. Ohio's fourth set win secured the 3-1 victory over Youngstown State.

The Bobcats will conclude their week of competition at Butler on Saturday, Sept. 5. First serve is set for 5 p.m. ET at Butler's Hinkle Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Ind. The game will be available to watch on ESPN+.
