Ohio Women’s Track & Field Breaks Indoor 4x400M Relay School Record at Marshall Jewel City Invite

HUNTINGTON, W. Va. – The Ohio women's track & field team concluded a success final day of competition at the Marshall Jewel City Invitational on Saturday, Feb. 7.
 
The highlight of the meet was Ohio's record breaking performance in the women's 4x400m relay. Junior Jada Irwin (Fairfield, Ohio), freshman Sydney Huckstep, sophomore Ava Kincaid (Perrysburg, Ohio) and freshman Alyvia Mentlow won the event with a new indoor school record of 3:49.29.
 
Irwin also recorded the fifth-fastest indoor time in program history in the women's 400m. The junior placed fifth with a season-best time of 57.60. Huckstep also placed in the women's 400m, running an eighth-place time of 57.98.
 
Senior Sara Doughman (South Lebanon, Ohio) also recorded a top indoor program time in the women's 800m. Doughman won the event with a season-best time of 2:11.58. The senior's mark is a new meet record and ranks fifth in program history.
 
The Bobcats kicked off the day with the 60m hurdles preliminaries. Junior Gracie Smith (Grove City, Ohio) qualified for the finals with a time of 9.36. Smith ran the same time in the finals and placed eighth overall. Freshman Savannah Hunter also competed in the preliminaries, placing ninth with a PR of 9.37.
 
Four Bobcats competed in the women's 60m preliminaries. Mentlow led Ohio in 10th place with a time of 7.82. Junior Arissa Leo (Washington, D.C.) finished in 12th place (7.84, PR), freshman Alexys Sterling finished in 14th place (7.89) and freshman Zoey Caldwell finished in 19th place (8.04, PR). Leo also finished 13th in the women's 200m with a time of 25.98.
 
Sophomores Lauren Mader (Green Bay, Wis.) and Ashley Cornathan (Hilliard, Ohio) placed in the top 10 of the women's collegiate weight throw. Mader placed fourth (13.90m/45-7.25, PR) and Cornathan placed seventh (13.51m/44-4).
 
In the women's elite weight throw, freshman Aubree Beery (Lancaster, Ohio) placed fourth with a mark of 16.63 meters (54-6.75).
 
Senior Alyssa Mason (Dublin, Ohio) and Morgan Roth (Brunswick, Ohio) led Ohio in the women's 3,000 meters. Mason took home second place (9:49.64) and Roth placed third with a PR of 9:57.93.
 
The Bobcats will be back in action at the GVSU Big Meet and Heartland Invitational on Friday, Feb. 13.
