Ohio Women’s Track & Field Earns Three Bronze Medal Finishes on Day 1 of the MAC Indoor Championships

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – The Ohio women's track & field team concluded day one of the Mid-American Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships in eighth place with 19 points including three bronze medals. Overall, the Bobcats finished with three bronze medal finishes, four podium finishes and four athletes who qualified for the finals of their events.
Freshman Aubree Beery (Lancaster, Ohio) kicked off the day with a bronze medal finish in the women's weight throw. In her debut at the championships, Beery threw a personal-best mark of 18.59 meters (61-0). The freshman's performance ranks fourth best all-time in program history.
Ohio's second bronze medal of the day came from graduate student Kelsi Harris (Liberty Township, Ohio) in the women's 5,000 meters. Harris ran an impressive PR of 16:19.49, the second-fastest indoor time in program history. Graduate student Theresa Hagey (Akron, Ohio) also earned a podium finish in the women's 5000 meters, placing eighth with a time of 16:50.03.
The Bobcats capped off day one with their third bronze medal of the day. The distance medley relay team, comprised of sophomore Kaitlyn Stewart (Floyd Knobs, Ohio), sophomore Ava Kincaid (Perrysburg, Ohio), senior Sara Doughman (South Lebanon, Ohio) and junior Ellie Greenwell (Park Hills, Ky.), placed third overall with a time of 11:41.55.
Ohio had two athletes qualify for the finals of the women's mile. Greenwell qualified for the finals with a third-place time of 4:48.47. Stewart also qualified for the finals with a time of 4:52.30, placing 10th overall. Despite not qualifying for the finals, sophomore Mairin O'Brien (Lewis Center, Ohio) placed 13th overall with a PR of 4:54.87.
Sophomore Jaclyn Garvey (Grand Blanc, Mich.) led Ohio in the women's 800m trials, qualifying for the finals with a seventh place and personal-best time of 2:12.19. Despite not qualifying for the finals, senior Sophie Besett (Twinsburg, Ohio) ran a PR of 2:13.30 and placed 10th overall.
In her debut at the championships, freshman Alyvia Mentlow qualified for the finals of the women's 200m. Mentlow placed fourth overall with a PR of 24.64, the third-fastest indoor time in program history. The freshman also finished 15th in the women's 60m trials with a PR of 7.67, the fourth-fastest time in program history.
Junior Gracie Smith (Grove City, Ohio) recorded a personal-best score of 3,060 points in the pentathlon. Smith ran a PR of 9.13 in the women's 60m hurdles and finished ninth in the women's 800m (2:38.15).
The Bobcats will be back in action for the final day of competition at the MAC Indoor Championships on Saturday, Feb. 28.
