AKRON, Ohio -- The Ohio women's trakc & field team concluded competition at the Akron Invitational on Friday, Feb. 20.
Ohio kicked off the meet with the 60m preliminaries. Junior
Arissa Leo (Washington, D.C.) qualified for the the finals with a sixth-place time of 7.85. In the final, Leo ran a PR of 7.77 and placed fourth overall. Freshman
Zoey Caldwell took home eighth place in the women's 60m hurdle preliminaries with a time of 9.03.
Ohio had four athletes place in the top 10 of the women's mile. Freshman
Ava Beeks (Perrysburg, Ohio) led the way with a second-place and personal-best time of 5:05.02. Freshman
Savana Miller followed behind in third place with a time of 5:08.01. Freshmen
Adelyn Tager (Morgantown, W. Va.) and
Samantha Shreve (Buckhannon, W. Va.) placed sixth (5:25.91) and eighth (5:30.25), respectively.
Junior
Jada Irwin (Fairfield, Ohio) led Ohio in the women's 400m with a second-place time of 56.42. Senior
Ashley Long (HIlliard, Ohio) took home fifth place with a PR of. 57.94 and junior
Elinor Shuttleworth (Beavercreek, Ohio) came in eighth place (58.13). Long also finished seventh in the women's 200m with a PR of 25.41.
Senior
Sophie Besett (Twinsburg, Ohio) ran a PR of of 2:13.33 in the women's 800m, placing second in the event. Sophomore
Jaclyn Garvey (Grand Blanc, Mich.) followed behind in third place (2:13.61) while junior
Abby Wells (Westerville, Ohio) finished in sixth place (2:19.14).
Senior
Alyssa Mason (Dublin, Ohio) won the women's 3,000 meters with a time of 9:57.02. Sophomore
Sophie Lane (Hilliard, Ohio) took home third place with a time of 10:36.15.
In the field events, freshman
Kewogo Bendick won the women's long jump (5.48m/17-11.75, PR). Graduate student
Jasmine Correa (Holland, Mich.) finished sixth in the women's shot put with a PR of 13.08 meters (42-11).
The Bobcats will be back in action at the Mid-American Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships on Friday, Feb. 27 in Mount Pleasant, Mich.
